i guess they mailed it out on 11/24 and it's merciful they only updated me on that today so that i wouldn't have spent the past 3 days being all nervous....they say in the letter that if they don't hear back from me by feb 1st that they'll withdraw my app, i thought that was strange, is this what LOCI are for?

Definitely seems like they're waiting to see if you really want to attend cornell. it is definitely better then being waitlisted. I myself have been complete for longer then you and still have heard nothing back. =I

That's probably a good thing, given that the first person we know of to go to "decision" has not been an acceptance. While it's possible that not all the "decision" people have been deferred, it obviously means they're not all accepted either.

That's probably a good thing, given that the first person we know of to go to "decision" has not been an acceptance. While it's possible that not all the "decision" people have been deferred, it obviously means they're not all accepted either.

My guess is median people deferred in this batch, above 75th accepted in next, at/below 25th rejected right before Christmas (which is me ). That's ok, my son is due on Christmas!!!!!!!!

Well, I still think some 11/24 are acceptances and deferral.

would have been an autoadmit (granted some sort of criminal record)... but I doubt that since he has been accepted to other places.

Also, I would have gotten a deferral letter (I live in DC) which is closer to NY then NC.

I think it is weird that they are sending out deferrals so early (and other non-acceptance letters).

I don't really know. Remember Iowa... apps are up significantly this time compared to last year. But that could be for other reasons. You don't really know.

what makes you say this? other than auto-admits (who are recession-proof) do you know of any borderline or splitter that got in this cycle which makes you think this?

I don't really know. Remember Iowa... apps are up significantly this time compared to last year. But that could be for other reasons. You don't really know.

Yeah but look at the LSN graphs for Duke, Georgetown and Michigan. They seem to be shaping up pretty similarly to last year's. I think apps might be up at the 15-30 schools but among the top tier, it looks pretty similar to last cycle, at least this early in the game.
