One of my friends who goes to U-Arts told me that part of the law school is in Center City, near U-Arts, does anyone know if this is true? I always thought that the law school was in North Philly, at the Temple Campus.

No I went to ASD the law school is three buildings on Temple's main campus. They did not mention anything about other parts in the city. But Although Temple's campus is in a slight rough neighborhood, the actual campus was very nice and the law buildings seemed very new and state-of-the-art

Thanks for the info. I'm glad that the campus and law buildings were nice. I haven't been to visit yet.

How long after you submitted did you receive the login for the status checker? I'm thinking that mine got lost in the shuffle somewhere...

I received that status checker maybe...3 or 4 days after I submitted. I didn't go complete until nearly a month later though...I had to call in to make sure my app was on track...but after going complete it didn't take very long to get a decision. I never went "under review" on status checker either. Just from complete to accepted.

Thanks! I called admissions and the woman I spoke with was very nice, but she put me on hold for a few minutes and when she came back on, her response was basically like "oh.... ummm.... well, your application was complete 3/8..... I'll have someone send you a status checker now..." I'm afraid to even think about how long it would have been before they found it under someone's desk or behind a filing cabinet or wherever it was hiding.

I got an email 2 and a half months after i submitted my application giving me my login for status checker. At that time they also told me that I was now complete which is crazy because I submitted my application with all of the requirements.

This is just a general answer for everyone with Temple's admission from what I have learned. The status checker is screwed up in that you will go complete twice before a decision is given. They explained it to me that it should have another step online. What is really happening is the first is an actual complete and the second is your application is now under review. It took me 13 weeks total to get my decision. If you do call the admissions dept, they are extremely helpful but they do have a strict policy of not discussing your decision over the phone until a official letter is sent to your house. When you call though, it does help in that it seems it does sort of expedite the process a little bit.

I'm not trying to be an ass, and I'm sure you've already been told this, but if you really want to work in NYC or DC you should go to school in NYC or DC. For me, Philadelphia is just as good of a city as either of those places, not to mention exponentially more affordable, so I've withdrawn from Fordham and American to attend Temple.

As for Temple vs. Case, I wouldn't think Case Western would place higher in either of those markets than Temple does. They are schools with similar prestige and Temple is much closer geographically to both, so I see no reason why, if anything, Temple wouldn't place better than Case in DC and NYC.

All I can say about Temple's placement in those areas is that Temple does have NYC and DC specific job recruitment days and that I know a few people who have attended Temple and gone on to get their first jobs in NYC and DC.

The bottom line is that there is certainly no guarantee that you can get a job in NYC or DC coming out of either school, or any school for that matter, including many of those located in NYC and DC.

Temple gives you the opportunity to be in the first batch of prospects in one of the top markets in the country. How many NYC and DC schools can say that about the cities they are located in?

My two cents is you should come to Philadelphia, you'll quickly learn to love it and you'll forget about your crush on NYC and DC.

Gonna do the bullet-pointed answer here:
- I was WL at NY and DC schools. They are also very expensive, as no one on the WL would get any money. So, circumstances leave me with Case and Temple. And a few others that I have decided I don't like.
- I assumed the geographic thing to be the case as well. But then I looked at:
--LinkRemoved--
and
--LinkRemoved--
And I have no way of knowing if these stats are by choice or not. But, since I'll never know, I have to assume they aren't by choice.
- I did like Phili. Not necessarily the area around Temple, and the one way streets drove my insane. But it is much more of a city than Cleveland.
-As for the schools. There were things I liked about each. Both sets of students seemed friendly, teachers seemed intelligent and caring. Temple seemed to have much better Study abroad and trial advocacy programs. I liked the thing they said about having to do some writing sample. Neither building is thrilling, but both are fine. I like the fact that I have been at Case for 4 years already and know what I'm getting into. Temple has the fear of the unknown. Plus, as great as it would be to live in a city, with all that cities have to do - I don't know much about Temple students. If they are a fun bunch, if it gets too expensive to do stuff, if the public transportation is so sketchy that you never want to go anywhere, ect. Silly reasoning, but true.
- So then since for the most part they are equal, it really just comes down to money. Case gave me 20k a year. Temple out-of-state is 30k. I asked them for money, but haven't gotten a response. I feel like 30k over three years is kind of a lot. Although, to an extent I do feel like I'm missing out on a new experience. And I suppose you are right, both I'm sure have fine chances at jobs. But, I can't see myself wanting to live in Philly forever, even with the opportunity to do so. I like NY, because it is close to home, and DC since it is where the government is.
- Perhaps if Temple did give me money, I would lean towards there. Sorry this post is so long and useless.

Withdrew today... hopefully it goes to someone on TLS!

I currently live in Philly but will be moving out the last weekend of July. I live in a GREAT house in South Philly. It's 3 bedrooms, 1 bath, recently renovated, backyard and basement with a washer and dryer, pet friendly (we currently have 2 cats), 4 blocks from a dogpark and close to the Orange Line - Temple's line. Right now I am paying 1000/month. I'm not sure if the rent will stay the same, but if not I'm sure it won't be much more. My landlord is looking to rent it immediately after we leave. He lives in the NYC area and leaves you alone unless you need something. I'm sure he would not mind having law students live there as he likes people who are older and more responsible. If you are interested, please PM me.

Went to my second complete date. Guess this means I'm under review. Numbers look solid "accept" according to LSN, but schools are pretty loathe to take splitters this late.

Has anyone tried to negotiate scholarship offers with Temple? I sent them an e-mail and am still waiting to hear any response from them after 2 days.

Ditto. Sent an e-mail on Monday. I think I'm gonna call tomorrow if I don't hear anything.

I was successful, but the response took about a week.

Did you have a scholarship before? I got nothing, so I'm pretty much starting from the beginning. Also, should I wait til' Monday to call? Seems awfully late considering the deposit deadline is Thurs, but I don't want to be all annoying.

I also tried, I heard back later that day saysing that my request would be sent to faculty board and they would review. About two days after I go a response back increasing my scholly. I was initially give a small amount for the first year.

Called Temple. Got a "I'm sure she'll get back to you at some point, no you can't talk to her, please be patient" response. I know they say be patient, be patient, but, I have to make my decision in 6 days - and money is kind of a big factor. Even an e-mail saying 'I'm sorry we can't do anything' would be better, since at least then you know.

Sent Ms. Johnston an email yesterday attaching my other scholarship offers (including $10k/year from Villanova), and she responded today with a $12k non-renewable. I didn't receive a scholarship at all when I went admitted so this was good news with a quick turnaround! I basically just explained that financial considerations were an extremely important factor in my decision and that I really liked the school when I visited for ASD.

This makes me kind of sad that it has been a week, and my e-mail has still gone ignored when yours gets answered in a day.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
