Once you have as many offers as possible from comparable schools.shakha wrote:We have super similar numbers and I got a pretty disappointing offer too!bmurp wrote:Actually disappointed with my offer.. I seem to be the only one! 20K a year with 166, 3.65. 105K from emory so I guess that takes USC + LA rent off the table
For everyone that's going to negotiating, do you guys know when the best time to do so is?

Just another take as food for thought: I'd start negotiating the moment you have a high-leverage offer in hand. Numbers of offers only matter to the extent they allow you to select the best offer to present in negotiation.ProductofUnreality wrote:Once you have as many offers as possible from comparable schools.shakha wrote:We have super similar numbers and I got a pretty disappointing offer too!bmurp wrote:Actually disappointed with my offer.. For instance, with USC, if you have a full-ride from UCLA in hand, you don't need to wait. The person with the least to lose wins a negotiation most times, and a full ride from a better school in the same city is pretty much the direct opposite of losing. If SC is gonna move at all, they'd definitely move for that.

Same. And unfortunately for us all this scholarship activity probably means we won't be hearing anything soon.kangaroo430 wrote:Been stuck on 2nd read forever..

I got this too. Seems pretty cool. Did anyone who applied for Rothman get the "you're still in the running for the Rothman" paragraph? I haven't heard anything from them about scheduling interview but this was included in my scholarship offer...larsy91 wrote:Anyone receive information about an inaugural honors program in their scholarship letter?

Looks like $$$ is slightly worse than last year but that's not surprising considering that there is more people with higher LSAT scores this year.

I got the same amount from UCI as well...they're so stingy for a non-top tier school. I'm not sure your idea would work since UCI and USC aren't exactly peer schools, but if you don't get any other competitive offers, it's worth a shot.shakha wrote:$25k a year , kinda disappointed, was hoping for more. definitely going to try to negotiate, i got the same amount at UCI.
I'm thinking of leveraging USC against UCI first and then going back to USC? Is that a good idea?

I'm actually pleased with my scholarship offer and it's pretty much cinched the deal for me. Super excited to go visit during one of the Admit Tour days. I'm still waiting for an answer on the travel stipend though. Anyone hear back about that yet?

If I've already received a better offer from Emory, should I start using that as leverage or wait for UCLA (though I doubt they'll give me much)?fliptrip wrote:Just another take as food for thought: I'd start negotiating the moment you have a high-leverage offer in hand. My first instinct in your shoes would definitely be to keep waiting to see what else you end up having in your hand. I don't really know if USC would jump at an Emory offer if there's enough in your profile to strongly suggest that USC would be your top choice. They could just call your bluff.gryffinclaw wrote:If I've already received a better offer from Emory, should I start using that as leverage or wait for UCLA (though I doubt they'll give me much)?fliptrip wrote:Just another take as food for thought: I'd start negotiating the moment you have a high-leverage offer in hand. UCLA would be better for negotiating because they and USC are rivals and in the same region so they are competing for the same applicants. USC and Emory aren't really competing because people who want to live in Georgia will go to Emory and people who want to live in LA will go to SC.

You need to convince them that you'll matriculate with a higher offer from sc. You should be asking for a lot morebmurp wrote:Actually disappointed with my offer.. I seem to be the only one! 20K a year with 166, 3.65. 105K from emory so I guess that takes USC + LA rent off the table

To me Emory and USC are similarly ranked. I do believe an offer from UCLA provides greater leverage, but even if you don't get much from UCLA, I think an Emory offer is still good to use.

I can't blame you, it's exciting stuff. I agree with Strawberry that Emory would be a fine school to use as leverage, I just also think that UCLA will carry much more weight in the negotiations.gryffinclaw wrote:Thanks for the input, you guys. If you wanted to get the process started you could see if they'll up their offer after considering their offer from Emory and then once you have your offer from UCLA you could see if they'll raise their offer again (or see if UCLA will raise their offer in case USC's is higher, then bring UCLA's higher offer back to SC).
Theres a thread on here about scholarship negotiation and some pretty good articles on the internet about it. Good luck!

You would need UCLA or something else, I doubt they give a damn about Emory for negotiations.
