How long have you been in Mexico City? I was there this summer and completely fell in love, from a vacationer's standpoint at least. The street food is incredible! And so much Frida and Diego!!jettison63 wrote:
This is is how I feel in Mexico City. People move slowly both in general [work projects can take an absurdly long time to get done because everyone will give you what you need, "in a few minutes"] and then actually while walking. Sometimes I really just want to tell people, "Forward! Go there!" Alas, I just mutter in my head, "This would never fly in NY."

Re: 0L Ladies - Female C/O 2019 Applicants
My husband and I spent a month in Mexico last summer, starting in DF for about 6 days, going down through Puebla and Oaxaca, then Chiapas, ending in Tulum. DF totally blew me away - it was such a great mix of new and old - definitely felt a strong sense of living history, like you said. We pretty much saw as much Frida and Diego as we could (the free murals in the government buildings are mind-boggling), walked through many parks (the one near la Casa Azul made me feel like I was in Europe), ate tons of food (best huarache of my life), tried pulque, got caught in the rain several times, tried and failed to find good Mexican beer (the beer, alas, leaves something to be desired). The metro system is also incredibly fast and convenient, especially compared to the crap that passes for public transit in SF. We also went to a place called Mercado Roma a few times, which has all kinds of pop-up food and other stands - tuna carnitas!!!jettison63 wrote:
I've been here almost a year to the day [though I'd spent a some here before then which is when I fell in love with the city]. Were you here on vacation?
I agree with everything you said--the food is amazing, the art and culture too. There's also such a strong sense of living history here. This place would be a mecca for a lot of vacationers who don't think of it. The quality of life for my cost of living is ridiculously low. I can't believe how inexpensive food, transit, rent, and my phone all are.
In general, I am very, very happy here. I worry now that my earlier tangent gave the wrong impression.
My frustrations are small. IE: I like plans and the people who make them, walking faster, and being able to be more direct. Workplace communication is terribly vague and indirect. Sending an email to a colleague requires me to tell them in person that I'm going to send it or to tell them I did after it was sent.
But no place is perfect, and I am quite happy in DF. That said, what'd you do on your trip?
It makes me so happy to hear other people love this city too.
I honestly don't know why more people don't consider visiting - I think people think it will be intimidating, but I found DF to be very approachable and easy to navigate. I definitely plan to go back at some point.

Hello Ladies/Leslies,
I'm likely visiting a couple of schools next week (not for formal interviews -- think info session/tour and maybe I will have a chance to introduce myself to adcomms). Wanted to get your thoughts on the following neurotic concerns:
- Dress code? Are jeans okay for this type of thing?
- Will it seems super lame/juvenile if my mom tags along? We don't see each other that much and since she lives nearby the schools I'm planning to visit, she really wants to come with me and spend the day together.

I think dark jeans and a nice blouse would be fine! But, I personally wouldn't bring a parent.curlious wrote:Hello Ladies/Leslies,

I wore dark jeans, a nice sweater, flat riding boots, and a fitted jacket. Simple jewelry and hair pulled back. I felt totally comfortable in that during the tour since my guide and all the students were the same or more casual, and the 'interview' with the adcomms was v chil. My mom came on the trip with me and walked around campus for a bit while I did the tour/class visit. I don't think parents should be actually in the tour but I think its fine if they lurk around - esp if they're paying for it haha!barley wrote:I think dark jeans and a nice blouse would be fine! Going back to the female friendships thing - are any of y'all in sororities? How is that viewed in admissions/in the law school environment?

Awesome, I was planning to wear something along the same lines. As for my mom, I'm going to suggest we get lunch near one of campuses and then meet up after the tour. Thanks for the advice!texasellewoods wrote:I wore dark jeans, a nice sweater, flat riding boots, and a fitted jacket. Simple jewelry and hair pulled back. Anyone see the new Barbie commercial? It's actually pretty cute.

Too bad Barbie would have to walk on all four limbs if she existed IRL.

Those are SO GOOD. C'mon, Lego, the Supreme Court is an impartial body!!!schocolate wrote: The original proposal was for Lego figures for all the female Justices, but Lego said it couldn't approve political projects, so now it's just going to be generic female judges. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/03/1 ... 46488.html
