Wait I thought I was considered an independent too but I literally couldn't complete the need access form until I included my parent's info. It wouldn't let me continue onto the next page? Were you guys able fill it out w/out including parent's info?Iwanttolawschool wrote:I didn't have to provide my parents info because I am an independent

Did you select other schools on NeedAccess? It asked me for my parents' info but I unselected the other schools I had selected and it let me submit to BU without my parents' info.calawgrl wrote:dasani13 wrote:are you over 24?calawgrl wrote:Wait I thought I was considered an independent too but I literally couldn't complete the need access form until I included my parent's info. Other than sending the FAFSA and Need Access forms to the school, is there any sort of separate form to fill out and send in to be considered for the need-based aid? Really trying to get a move on, but my damn parents have yet to do their taxes. Trying to get them to hurry up, but am trying to get my ducks in a row so I'm set to go asap once they file.

Re: Boston University c/o 2018 (2014-2015)
I'm hoping someone can give some advice. BU was the first school that accepted me. I got into BC as well with $22,000/year. I have yet to receive any merit aid from BU. I called the financial aid office and got "I don't know" to just about every question. How do they expect us to put down a deposit in two weeks without receiving any financial assistance? I really prefer BU over BC at this point, but I'm not turning down that scholarship for the unknown. Have the merit offers been good right off the bat or have you needed to negotiate some to get decent money?
Update 3/30: Called financial aid this morning and they said most merit based scholarships should be included in the welcome packet. Since I didn't get anything the woman on the phone said to email bulawaid@bu.edu with the offers I've received elsewhere. Hopefully they give me something!!

Re: Boston University c/o 2018 (2014-2015)
Last night I sent in a request for BU to increase my merit scholarship. I attached an offer from ASU for 5k more per year than what BU offered (and their tuition is 5k less per year, so it's actually a substantial difference).
I also sent admissions an email asking if they had any info regarding summer internships. Does anyone have any idea how hard it would be to find an internship if I'm planning to move to Boston in early June? I was thinking I could set something up ahead of time.

Anyone still not receive scholarship information? I was accepted Late Dec/Early Jan, above both 75ths, and still haven't heard anything. Not sure they actually want me to consider attending.

I got scholarship this week from an acceptance last week. I cannot imagine waiting that long...
Anyone know what size class they are aiming for this year? Hopefully smaller than 200?

Sent in my negotiation email last night and was emailed back today stating that they would add the information I provided to my file and review it again. They also reassured me that they will assess my need-based aid once they receive my Fafsa and Need Access forms (already submitted Fafsa, but just finished Need Access last night). It seemed like a really sincere email, and it came within a span of 24 hours. Much appreciated. BU seems to really have its stuff together.

Agreed, I've had a good experience with them so far as well. They responded same day to my negotiation email and said basically the same thing. Looking forward to seeing if they can help me out here.lujanj7 wrote:Sent in my negotiation email last night and was emailed back today stating that they would add the information I provided to my file and review it again. When I went to their admitted students event, it sounded like it would be around 200 or slightly larger (specifically, someone of authority (I can't remember if it was the Dean or another administrator) mentioned 218 as a number). The current 1L and 2Ls mentioned their class sizes were also around 200.rion91 wrote:I got scholarship this week from an acceptance last week. I cannot imagine waiting that long...

I don't believe so. If you get merit information, this will be in your admission packet or at least you'll get that info soon after. I don't remember if BU has their own FAFSA and Need Access deadline, but be sure to check. At the ASW, they stated that the financial aid info (i.e. loan information) wouldn't be available until after June 1 when they start to process loan info).lujanj7 wrote:Other than sending the FAFSA and Need Access forms to the school, is there any sort of separate form to fill out and send in to be considered for the need-based aid? There is a March 1st priority deadline for need-based aid. I sent in my Need Access after March 1st and got a response less than 2 weeks later so +1 to appreciating BU's timeliness.JHP wrote:I don't believe so. Did anyone figure out an answer to this? I was also confused by the email.betty_bojangles wrote:huskies2015 wrote:
Same. Also confused. They said it was in response to need based application, not negotiations, but they called it a scholarship, which implies merit.
Should we be responding? I have no clue how to respond.

I should have applied to more peer schools. Waiting to hear back from the rest of the schools and don't want to send in a negotiation email without all of my information.Gungnir wrote:Agreed, I've had a good experience with them so far as well. They just emailed me again saying that my NeedAccess form came in and that they will be reviewing my need-based forms in the next couple of days. I love how on top of things they have been. Definitely appreciate the communication.
