This. Part of the "homework" is to understand H's finaid policies and estimate your cost of attendance using H's web resources. The first page of this thread has useful information for calculating your COA.radikal_eyes wrote:are we expected to accept/reject an offer without any sense of what our debt obligations will be?

Yeah fwiw you can pretty roughly approximate what your finaid offer will be based on the available website info.

Can I get a link to what you're looking at? Because what I was looking at wasn't very helpfulPneumonia wrote:Yeah fwiw you can pretty roughly approximate what your finaid offer will be based on the available website info.

I looked over the website, and I'm still unsure how to estimate parental contribution..
For example, If I'm under 25, have no assets/income, and have a sibling in college, what does COA look like with a combined parental income of 60,000, 80,000, and 100,000?

Yeah I have the same question. Do they leave a msg? Will they call again? I have 5 finals this week. Obviously I can't answer phone calls during an examtparks wrote:What happens if you miss the call? I'm sure they'd email in that case just to say they'd like to talk things over with you. It's highly likely that if you get a JS1b it's because they want to offer you a spot. I can't imagine they'd auto-reject someone for not picking up the phone.frazzz wrote:Yeah I have the same question. Do they leave a msg? Will they call again? I have 5 finals this week. I looked on the HLS admissions blog and didn't see anything confirming that they're pulling from the WL on the 15th-20th. Does anyone know where those exact dates came from or is that just speculation based on last year.

An adcom told a waitlisted applicant in person that action would start then. Based on the nature of the convo the applicant thinks that action = acceptances.cpkelly wrote:I looked on the HLS admissions blog and didn't see anything confirming that they're pulling from the WL on the 15th-20th. Also, last year acceptances started on the 22nd and they've been roughly a week ahead this year.

I was for my pre-WL interview. The contact was also just HLS admissions and not the person who interviewed me.

What do you think about the "homework" emails that people got after their js1s? 100% admit like the js1bs? ... What does that mean for us pre WL js1s...drawstring wrote:I was for my pre-WL interview. The contact was also just HLS admissions and not the person who interviewed me.

It may be dependent on your interviewer.ParisetMoi wrote:Did anyone else not receive an email confirmation after sending in their homework?

Re: Harvard Waitlist 2017 - WITH SPREADSHEET!
Hey everyone. After my Skype interview last week, I said in my "homework" that I couldn't make a decision without visiting first. They gave me a two-week extension, so I immediately booked a trip. I'm actually writing this from the Boston airport on my way back to the west coast. It kind of pains me to say this (and I know it might be viewed as sacrilege around here), but I don't think Harvard is the place for me. After getting the full ASW experience at Stanford last month, walking around Harvard's campus was a bit underwhelming. Moving back east doesn't make much logistical sense for me, either. Sooo... I think I'm going to withdraw.

Well that's great you've come to a decision. Good luck at Stanford!gma221 wrote:Hey everyone. I will say that I am impressed they gave you that extension - it shows they are considering all last week's interviewees very seriously.

Could you share a little more about what their response was to your request for an extension? Could it be the case that they gave you 2 weeks because that's when they hoped to release JS2s? I wonder IF they were reluctant to grant you an extension whether that meant they were very interested in the candidates that just got JS1s...
Best of luck to you! I think a number of us would love to be in your shoes.

Re: Harvard Waitlist 2017 - WITH SPREADSHEET!
Thanks for the kind words! Not much to share re: the extension, except that they seemed perfectly happy to grant it. Once I got here, though, I didn't receive any special treatment. I stopped by the admissions office but only talked to the receptionist. She was very friendly and answered some basic questions I had about housing. After that I just walked around and did the self-guided tour. Unfortunately, this is 1L finals week, so the campus was very quiet and I didn't get to interact with any students.
It seems like we didn't all get the same info during our interviews. My interviewer specifically said that they would be making decisions within two weeks.
Anyway, good luck to everyone who's waiting!

Soo how have you guys been sending your LOCIs? in the body of the email or as an attachment? I would paste it in the body since I don't want to be a pain in the ass, but…I spent so much time perfecting the 'letter' format.

Re: Harvard Waitlist 2017 - WITH SPREADSHEET!
I wrote my letter as a .doc, exported as .pdf and attached it.
In my email's body, I just pasted whatever was on my LOCI (sans header) and put a "I've attached a copy of this letter for your convenience" or something like that.

Hey all! I was a Jan JS1, and I just got a call asking me to take 24hrs to make sure I'd be able to commit to Harvard if I was given the option. Is TCR on this that it's a JS1b, or have these calls been going out to most WL'd students?

Whoa. This sounds like "the homework" assigned to last week's JS1's. But the fact that you're getting it is making me think that the homework is taking on something of a JS1b type importance. They want you to EMAIL them back within 24?a.sleepyhead wrote:Hey all!
