Same here. Admitted no PT, no Why Duke. (Although my essay hinted at a "Why Duke?" but not in an explicit way.)ohpobrecito wrote: FWIW, I didn't write a Why Duke and was accepted so it's not like they're automatically waitlisting everyone.

I submitted PT 9 days ago, and now I'm freaking out because I didn't write a Why Duke... I did include it somewhat in my PS though and was born in NC...so I'm hoping that will be enough but I'm not really optimistic at this point

Hi everyone. This might be a dumb question but on the standardized tests section on the app I'm trying to write in that I took the LSAT in October but I cancelled it. It won't let me input anything (I tried a / and a C, haha) for the score though. Should I just leave the score part blank for now?

if the form is only allowing numeric input, just leave it blank.Wolverine1614 wrote:Hi everyone. Seconding this, but without fancy mod-colored font. Happy to answer questions!slackademic wrote:Hey guys.
First, congrats to everyone who's been admitted. I'm sure you guys will have some amazing schools to choose from and I really hope you give Duke a fair chance. I'm a 1L here and I'm really happy with my decision to attend.
Second, whether you're working on your applications, waiting on results, or have been waitlisted/PR'd, feel free to message me with any questions. I'm happy to tell you what I can about the school.

To the 1Ls on the board... What made you pick Duke? And what's your favorite thing about Duke so far?

I absolutely love the south, and I wanted to go to a top school, so it was a logical choice. Plus, like Slack said, they're really pretty generous with scholarships and very easy to negotiate with. (For what it's worth, I was probably one of the last waitlist admits of the year, and they were still willing to negotiate with me). Clerkship numbers are good, and they place well into government and public interest too so that was a big draw. The location is really fantastic; Raleigh-Durham isn't a huge city or anything, but there's plenty to do. Also, if you're outdoorsy, we're only a couple of hours from either the Great Smokey Mountains or the outer banks.wowhio wrote:To the 1Ls on the board... What made you pick Duke? Best part so far about the school itself, besides the people, are the opportunities...there is really something here for everyone. And it's really easy to get involved right away, if that's what you want to do; if not, just hang out and go to the lunch panels and events. Free food, and they're almost always pretty interesting.

Congrats, everyone! Just remembered that I forgot to post that I didn't write a Why Duke, but I did have a non school-specific DS. Admitted a few weeks ago through PT - so don't immediately start freaking out if you don't have a Why Duke!

Was just accepted to Duke via PT! Details in LSN profile. Complete 10/15. Did not write Why Duke, but did submit my DS as optional essay II.

Another 1L here.wowhio wrote:To the 1Ls on the board... What made you pick Duke? And what's your favorite thing about Duke so far?
I picked Duke because it was the best school (measured by employment figures) with the best scholarship that I got into.
By far, the best thing about Duke is the people. The entire school is a group of friendly, fun, smart people. I think part of that comes from being a small school. You will see professors and people you know every time you walk down a hallway. They will recognize you too. I think another part comes from the southern culture -- people are just generally happier and nicer than in the north (where I'm from).
At the end of the day I don't really care that I go to a school where people hold doors for each other and say hi in the hallways, but what I do care about is being happy during 1L. That's because 1L is really hard and really stressful. Duke makes 1L as un-stressful as possible. I do better work when I'm happy.

Congrats to the admits! Hope to be joining you eventually.
To the Duke Law students monitoring this thread and taking questions, I have one.
I once read (somewhere, I cannot remember where sadly) that Duke was the most "wired" (i.e. technology friendly) of the top law schools. Any opinions on this? I'm not someone who always has to have Wi-Fi or anything, heck I don't even own a smartphone, but I do love me a campus that doesn't have a network from 1943.

There are also outlets everywhere, including art all of the seats in all of the classrooms. And the free printing is unlimited. And they have a room where you can go for tutorials on tech you're not familiar with...haven't used it but the thought of it is nice.Nonconsecutive wrote:Congrats to the admits! Thanks for all the responses! Free printing sounds especially nice, my UG had a notoriously low print quota.
