That's what he meant. It's not like one is KB and one is JS. You aren't randomly picking your interviewer by selecting "HLS Interviewer" instead of "Interviewer, HLS."untar614 wrote:sure it is. if someone could figure out which is which, i'd know which interviewer to prepare for.helix23 wrote:sorry, this isn't usefuluntar614 wrote:for some more useful speculation, when signing up for the interview, i noticed there were 2 options for the second drop down menu - one said "HLS Interviewer" and the second one said "Interviewer, HLS". Think for a second about how ridiculous that would be.

Come on, I'd rather speculate about this than nothing at all. You've already had your interview, haven't you? Was it HLS interviewer or Interviewer, HLS?TripTrip wrote:Stahp.eyfl wrote:I *think* I had HLS Interviewer and it turned out to be Jessica.

Was the date you signed up an odd or even date? Maybe that will account for the difference.MyNameIsFlynn! wrote:HLS interviewer, KBeyfl wrote:Come on, I'd rather speculate about this than nothing at all. Got a JS1 yesterday late afternoon! Geeze. I thought I was settled on UChicago but now Harvard is throwing off my plans.

Re: Harvard Waitlist 2013
Am I right to assume that getting an interview off of the wait list is a less positive sign than getting one before the wait list? I remember reading somewhere that ~70% of those interviewed get spots, but I assume this is from the original pool and exempting whatever happens post-wait list. Do we have any info on the chances of getting in after WL --> JS1?

Re: Harvard Waitlist 2013
The 70% refers to the entire cycle. 850 admits out of 1200 interviews.feelingood wrote:I remember reading somewhere that ~70% of those interviewed get spots, but I assume this is from the original pool and exempting whatever happens post-wait list. Have no idea on the chances of WL-->JS1 vs. JS1-->WL, but I imagine since it seems like they're interviewing most of the WL, chances are much lower than 70% either way. So yes, getting now is probably less of a positive sign.

Honestly, at this point, i feel like they may just interview all of the WL. Maybe they do still need to reach that 1200 target.

Re: Harvard Waitlist 2013
Wouldn't be surprised. Don't think it would be about the target though. I feel like if they have the time, why not do it? If everyone on the WL is a contender, why not evaluate all of them?shakespeare wrote:Honestly, at this point, i feel like they may just interview all of the WL. Also, I think this means no JS1b for me. Everyone will be on equal footing with one interview each.

Re: Harvard Waitlist 2013
So as we're idly speculating, here's the final post on admission stats from last year's WL.
Make of that what you will.
Edit: I can't type.
In total, 71 people left their stats on the spreadsheet, but unlike this year's folks, the vast majority of them hadn't been interviewed prior to arriving on the list. Still, so long as folks are reporting at about the same rate, we're looking at 47/91 waitlisters with interviews after the first large rounds of invites compared to 40ish/71 last year.30 in the first wave, 13 in the second wave, 4 in the trickle-in period* (early July - [late August])
2 declined admission, one in each of the 2 waves
0 people claimed WL--> JS1 --> no JS2, likely because we told them its a foolish thing to say you aren't sure you want to attend during your WL --> JS1
Make of that what you will.
Edit: I can't type.

Re: Harvard Waitlist 2013
I doubt they interview the entire WL and start choosing. I bet the waves of JS1s we are seeing right now are the biggest we will see this cycle. When the dust clears after deposit deadlines, then maybe WL->JS1s here and there throughout the summer. My prediction.shakespeare wrote:Honestly, at this point, i feel like they may just interview all of the WL. Maybe they do still need to reach that 1200 target.

Re: Harvard Waitlist 2013
What I am curious about is how they go about choosing which WL->JS1 applicant to admit.
Let's say a 3.8/176 decides to deposit elsewhere. Do they just grab the first WL app with similar numbers?

That brings up another point to anyone with a future WL-->JS1 interview. There was definitely a YP element in my JS1 earlier this week. I wasn't really expecting to have to show that I would take Harvard over a (non-existent) Hamilton.cslouisck wrote:0 people claimed WL--> JS1 --> no JS2, likely because we told them its a foolish thing to say you aren't sure you want to attend during your WL --> JS1

no js1b? What does that mean? i was wondering about our chances being that we had a js1 prior to WLLavitz wrote:Wouldn't be surprised. Don't think it would be about the target though. That might be a consequence of your numbers. I didn't feel like there was any YP in mine.TripTrip wrote:That brings up another point to anyone with a future WL-->JS1 interview. Is a day after receiving the wait list notification too soon to send an loci?

I second that. Mine was only about why law school & not MBA with my credentials / work experience (besides some other relatively general stuff)helix23 wrote:That might be a consequence of your numbers. P.S. I still was asked though where I'm planning to put a deposit for the time being

Re: Harvard Waitlist 2013
I don't have the kind of numbers that would get me much T6 $ but I definitely felt a vibe of YP in mine as well. Was expressly asked about my options (including working for a year instead of LS), which turned into a little discussion about timelines and willingness to ride out the WL.helix23 wrote:That might be a consequence of your numbers. When they admit people off the WL, I think they're looking for people who are absolutely gung-ho about H and would commit the same day. Which is probably many/most of us, but I think they want to know that for sure so they can maintain their yield numbers. At least that's the impression I got.
