Hmmm. I think it's $150,000 without dependents. Less sure about this, but something like $200,000 with dependents. Keep in mind that this is the maximum. The median parental income is around $90,000 for those receiving grant aid.

Also keep in mind that assets are important, though not as important as income, and that if you'll be 26 or above by 09/01/2012 your parents income will matter less.
i would say its a bit lower. around $100k parental income + around $700k assets (including real estate which is pretty easy to hit for mid-upper middle class) will not get any grant aid.

Thanks. I found some information on the HLS website as well: http://www.law.harvard.edu/current/sfs/ ... ytype.html.

$180,000 total parental income appears to be the hard cutoff, unless you have siblings in college -- and even then it's unlikely you'll receive any aid.

Ack. HLS at sticker. That's a gross proposition.

Disagree with the above from the people I spoke with at ASW (who were fairly candid about parents' incomes), but you won't really know until Harvard gives you their final number.

Here is the website I was drawing my information from: http://www.law.harvard.edu/current/sfs/ ... ytype.html

It looks like the maximum is $250,000 with siblings in college, though they make it sound like most people in that situation with $180,000+ parental income get zilch.

depends on your definition of "expect". those were basically my stats 1L and I got $0 grant. its still worth the application in the $100k-$200k income range but i wouldn't go so far as to "expect" grant aid with those numbers.

Yes, I guess it does. Harvard gives specific numbers ($150k and $250k, with siblings), and mentions that it is very unlikely that people above those thresholds get grant aid. I tend to think of an expectation as a matter of probability backed by some reasonably solid evidence, and in this case Harvard's website met those conditions.

You seemed to be basing your comment on your own singular experience, which might not be reliable. Also, you said it pretty matter-of-factly ("will not get any grant aid"), which was the reason I disagreed.

Hey everybody,

I have been checking my Harvard Law email regularly, and it seems that after a few initial emails and some information about financial aid, I havent received anything else, including information about student groups that others seem have been sent.

Anyone else in the same boat? Any idea why that might be?

Thanks, and congrats again to all the recently admitted

You have to take the post-admissions survey so they know which groups to pair you with.

Is there anyone who knows they cannot make it to ASW, and has had experience visiting on their own? I haven't gotten my package in the mail yet, so I don't know if the AS website says anything about this, but I am wondering if they are more willing to set up an admitted student with a tour of housing or the campus, or any other presentation of information, than they seem to be for purely prospective visitors (tours only available in the fall?).

I'm already really bummed about losing the chance to meet other admitted students, but I also hate missing out on the general information/sales pitch of ASW. I'm able to attend my other main choice's weekend, and I'm worried that the comparative perspective is going to be majorly skewed if I visit Harvard completely unguided.

I got my JS2 around the same time you did, and got my big envelope about a week ago.

From AS Website:
If you cannot attend a formal program, please let us know when you are planning to visit so we may arrange for a student volunteer to take you to a class and on a tour of the school. To ensure your visit is as useful as possible, please contact us at least one week prior to your expected visit.

When you arrive, you will have the opportunity to sit in on a class, and/or meet with representatives from Admissions, Student Financial Services, the Housing Office, the Office of Public Interest Advising, or the Office of Career Services.

If you google Harvard Law Email you can find the login page. The login info is in the admissions packet. I immediately set mine up to forward to gmail and set up gmail so that it could send from the HLS server, which I recommend everyone do.

This may be a stupid question, but where can we find our initial passwords for our Harvard emails?

So HLS just sent an email about how we should be checking our HLS emails regularly.

Think they read TLS much? :)

It should be in the admissions packet they send. I haven't yet received that packet, but when I got the email from them today reminding us to activate it, I gave the admissions office a call and they hooked me up with all the necessary info.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
