Re: University of Minnesota applicants 2011-12 cycle (c/o 2015)
At this point I'm nearly certain I'll be at the U in the fall. Just waiting on a few other financial aid offers.
Thinking of living in uptown with some friends at the med school. For other people who are considering attending, where do you think you'll live?
EDIT: I'll be at the april ASW too.

I'm a 3L Admissions Ambassador. I'll be at both, leading portions of your weekend.rijed wrote:Which ASW are you attending?MidwestJosh wrote:Congrats!! However, I'm a vet so my GI Bill should cover the first two years of law school with this scholarship.

Has anyone been successful negotiating scholarships with minnesota?
I would love to accept the offer, but the tuition is so high.

I didn't realize how rapidly the tuition has increased until I did a little more research. Made me really jealous of students a couple years agoumarzulqarnain wrote:Has anyone been successful negotiating scholarships with minnesota?

In with $20,000/year scholarship. I wondering when I try to negotiate more. I've gotten into higher ranked schools, including several t14 but haven't heard any mention of scholarships yet. Can I use those acceptances to leverage more money now or should I wait to see if I get a similar offer from a higher ranked school?

Tell me about it. At one point not too long ago, tuition was 32 grand for non-residents. It's over 46 now!ThreeRivers wrote:I didn't realize how rapidly the tuition has increased until I did a little more research. I would love to accept the offer, but the tuition is so high.(Although there is a chance they wouldn't have offered as much scholly $$$ in those days).

I really feel like I'm out then with my numbers...3.31/155/AA male. I hope my essay touched them but their YP is really discouraging me.

This thread talks about Minn / YP a lot, but if you look at LSN it doesn't appear to do it THAT much (maybe like 4 or 5 people have been)

It looks like it only happened a couple of times, and there are admits with amazing numbers. It appears if you show minimal interest at any level they won't YP (based on the small amount of people who have been)

Based on how URM cycle seems to be going for U of M I'd predict a WL or admit (be pretty surprised if out right rejected)... no clue on how likely it is to get off Minn WLwlee1220 wrote:I really feel like I'm out then with my numbers...3.31/155/AA male. As an fyi, they are making admittance calls today. In!
(I was going to wait a bit to post, but it'd probably be easy for them to figure out who I am if they care that much anyways.)

In! Luckily called 5 min before my intern came in, otherwise it would be kind of awkward.landla wrote:As an fyi, they are making admittance calls today. In!

Also, congrats Landla.

Re: University of Minnesota applicants 2011-12 cycle (c/o 2015)
I really hope that I at least get a WL. I have already started studying to take the LSAT again in June for the next cycle if this one doesn't go the way I want it. U of M is really my first choice so I'm hoping against hope.ThreeRivers wrote:Based on how URM cycle seems to be going for U of M I'd predict a WL or admit (be pretty surprised if out right rejected)... no clue on how likely it is to get off Minn WLwlee1220 wrote:I really feel like I'm out then with my numbers...3.31/155/AA male. Waitlisted via email this afternoon. I'm slightly surprised, wrote a substantive part about Why Minnesota in my PS, 3.51, 170... it can't be YP though. In at Duke so will be withdrawing from WL. Congratulations to everyone who got in today, its a great school!

Same boat exactly--same numbers, already in at Duke, just got the WL e-mail although I didn't write much about Why Minnesota. I definitely feel like it's a YP, not that I'm offended; I never would have applied were it not for the fee waiver. I withdrew almost immediately.hanman wrote:Waitlisted via email this afternoon. Hopefully they waitlisted us so they could offer seats to people who weren't just going to go to Duke. Congrats to the people who got in!

W/L about a half hour ago. Bummer.
166/3.9, but it actually looks like people with significantly higher LSATs also got W/L'ed, so...rough cycle?

That's definitely yp... I'm surprised with you adressing it in ps (just made hypothesis that could avoid yp by this)hanman wrote:Waitlisted via email this afternoon. Significantly higher were because of yp probably. Yours might be because they're currently doing well on keeping the 3.8 median but not the 167 median.brooke.of.berk wrote:W/L about a half hour ago. Bummer.

Us news needs to start using LSAT / gpa mean or something to get rid of this 1 pt below LSAT median non-sense

Just registered for March ASW! I've never been to Minneapolis, but I'm strongly considering UMN, so I'm really excited to get the chance to check things out!
