Re: Southwestern 2011
I was wait listed last year as well... This is my second year applying. Last year I was told that wait list had 500 or more people on it. I'm not sure why a school would want to keep such a large wait list but nonetheless the vast majority never got off it.
My advice..... Have a back up plan and work on it asap

I got in today!
I'm actually in CA right now to visit Whittier, Western State, and Southwestern, so I'm gonna be checking out the school later. For you guys/girls that are local, how do they compare in your opinions?

Re: Southwestern 2011
go to southwestern, it just has a little bit more pull then the other two schools. i mean my uncle went to western state and has done well for himself, is a partner in his firm in orange county and what not, but overall I would say that southwestern is the better choice.

Southwestern has a much better reputation and is much more well known in CA. Hands down SW is better than Whittier and Western State. A lot of ppl actually compare SW more to Loyola and San Diego. I've lived in LA my whole life and there is no question SW is more respected and produces more successful lawyers and judges than Whittier and Western State.Kurt Cobain wrote:I got in today!

From an email SWL students received today:RAB wrote:At the asd on saturday did they discuss the bar passage rate and why its so low? I know the california bar is tough, but their passage rate worries me.
We have found that students who participate in Southwestern’s Early Bar and Bar Advantage Programs pass at higher rates than students who do not participate in those programs. One of the school’s strategies therefore to improving bar pass rates is to have all students complete Southwestern’s Early Bar Program in their last year of law school and then take the school’s Bar Advantage program combined with BarBri. To that end, Southwestern has developed a new relationship with BarBri that will allow students to pair the Bar Advantage Program with a customized BarBri course offered at Southwestern at a significant discount. When asked, the school recommends taking those programs (the Southwestern programs combined with BarBri).

Have been in review since 1/13 stuck with this date since the beginning, has never changed since.
From what I have heard, it should at least change once or twice...I am wondering what is going on with my app. Should I call them?

Yes. Have you been contacted to do a SCALE interview yet?mediation_86 wrote:Have been in review since 1/13 stuck with this date since the beginning, has never changed since.

I did not apply for SCALE, but I remember I had to rank something on the app.zla2014 wrote:Yes. Have you been contacted to do a SCALE interview yet?mediation_86 wrote:Have been in review since 1/13 stuck with this date since the beginning, has never changed since.

+1. Western State has really abysmal bar passage, retention, and employment rates. Whittier isn't as bad as Western State (reputation-wise), but Southwestern is better.zla2014 wrote:Southwestern has a much better reputation and is much more well known in CA. Although, Whittier's been working to overhaul themselves since getting off of probation. I have several friends that have attended Whittier in the last few years or are currently attending, and more than one of them has told me, "I wouldn't have passed the bar if I hadn't gone to Whittier, they REALLY prepare you."

I just called them, they said it was normal have the status remain the same 'in review' and to not have any change in the date. I wonder if this is a bad thing or notzla2014 wrote:Yes. I was in review from 12/13 to 2/2, i think the date may have changed once to 1/19, but overall I would say that is normal and not a bad sign

I did the SCALE interview even though I put that I wanted traditional full day on my app. I was asking because if you do the SCALE interview, they tend to process ur app faster. They told me this before I interviewed. Now that I have interviewed I find this to be true. I hadn't had any movement on my status checker since 2/7. I interviewed on Friday and yesterday they updated my app to "in review" for the 2nd time.

Look at the results of the most recent bar for California law schools..... Find SW, then compare it with the other 3rd and 4th tier California schools. It will surprise some of you.
