Why don't you try getting in touch with someone at the office by phone, perhaps an e-mail will do...IamAskier wrote:Pretty sure I'm breaking a record here, my app was sent 11/15, complete 11/17, updated to 2/14 and later 2/21. What do I ask? "Hey L&C, get the lead out!" But yes I agree, I'm calling tomorrow; its starting to get ridiculous.gator1 wrote:Why don't you try getting in touch with someone at the office by phone, perhaps an e-mail will do...IamAskier wrote:Pretty sure I'm breaking a record here, my app was sent 11/15, complete 11/17, updated to 2/14 and later 2/21. Re: Lewis & Clark 2011 Applicants
I have lived in Oregon most of my life. I was raised on the southern coast, which is fairly conservative. Geographically, most of the state is actually conservative, but most of the population is concentrated in the Portland Metro area, Eugene, and Salem, which tend to go liberal so our politics tend to be Democratic. In Portland, many people use public transportation, no one uses plastic bags at the grocery store, dogs are allowed and are brought pretty much everywhere, restaurants are huge on local and organic ingredients, etc. It's kind of a way of life no matter which way you vote to be more or less "green." Even people who don't buy into it actually act in such a manner compared to the way people behave in other parts of the country.gator1 wrote:I'm in too...from Florida so go figure. Anyways, no money for me = not cool. I'm in between L&C and UK - they offered me some money - but the whole situation with Oregon v. Kentucky is kind of complicated. I've never been to either state but I have a pretty good idea Oregon tends to be more liberal than conservative Kentucky. Correct me if I'm wrong....I know this is a L&C thread but I'd appreciate some serious comparisons between what you've heard is good/bad from either/both states. I'm pretty liberal - not San Francisco kind of liberal but still, open minded.
P.S: I'm not that big into environmental law - I enjoy nature don't get me wrong - but L&C is fortunately not a one trick phony and that is, to a great extent, why I applied to the school in the first place.
Aside from politics, overall I love this state. It gets a bad rep because of the weather, and it certainly rains a lot. It doesn't rain a lot like a lot of water, but a lot of days out of the year, so it tends to be gray for much of the year. However, Fall (before it starts raining) and Spring (after it stops raining, if it stops) are really beautiful. Summer here is perfect. The best thing is that when there is a sunny day in the Fall, Winter or Spring, Portlanders really know how to take advantage. If you like to be outside, whether it be hiking, jogging, biking, rafting, climbing, this (http://www.treetotreeadventurepark.com), spending time at parks, or whatever, Oregon is pretty sweet. There are a ton of terrific places to hit the slopes, plus the Oregon coast is beautiful. There are a million awesome places to go along the Columbia river. If you are outdoorsy, you'll love it here for sure. Personally, I'm not an outdoorsy freak. BUT over the years I have acquired quite an appreciation for the tremendous scenery we have around here nonetheless.
If you love food, like real food, like chef oriented restaurants, Portland is the country's best kept secret. If you love food, you will love Portland. Guaranteed. Portland (and Oregon in general) has some fantastic breweries and frankly, I am reluctant to leave Oregon because I don't want to have to go to the crap that everyone else drinks (I'm kidding, sort of). Oh, plus we have great wine. You don't hear about it because of that place they call Wine Country a few miles south (Napa Valley), but it's impressive.
Portland is not for everyone, but it's definitely not as crazy as SF. It's an extremely laid back city. It's made up of only a few neighborhoods relative to bigger cities, and each one is very close-knit, giving the city an even smaller feel.
Anyway, that's my take on what is great about Portland/Oregon. Hope it helps.

Seriously, anyone who is trying to get a feel for the culture of Portland, please check this out:

Re: Lewis & Clark 2011 Applicants
Got a call from Shannon Davis, Asst. Dean of Admissions, today at lunch. She said they were calling some of the part-time program admits to discuss the evening new class schedule info that was emailed out recently.
I'm actually glad it went to voicemail, because I'm in the jolly position of having to tell her that A)the new 5pm classes suck because who can get there by 5pm after work? and B)I'm going to Northwestern anyway.
I called back and left an awkwardly rambling voicemail saying those things. Why am I always so awful at leaving people messages?

I don't think it's just you! I could have a perfect voicemail all planned out in my head and then blow it when it's go-time!rinkrat19 wrote:Got a call from Shannon Davis, Asst. I keep reading about those that have been admitted after the 3rd status checker update. Are there also those that have been denied after the 3rd update?
The waiting is crazy!

There are also some that receive an email telling them their files were put on hold for re-review in April/ May. This is also after the 3rd status update. I think I read this in this thread a couple of pages back.IndigoMoose wrote:I keep reading about those that have been admitted after the 3rd status checker update. There is a time lag between the third status update and the time you can actually log into the ASW. In my case it took close to 10 days.
In case you are denied, you will receive an email.

Got in 02/15...waiting on 7 other schools but I've received a few calls from Professors and Administrators and they seem interested.
have a 163/3.86 and I didn't think I was all that competitive, but L&C seem interested. Not sure yet though.

A 3L called me last night, and I assume some other folks got calls too? It went well - she actually had some interesting things to say about the school. She had work/internships throughout school and has a job lined up as a regulatory specialist. Turned down acceptance at Michigan to attend L&C. Said that the fact that L&C is the only school in Portland gives it a nice advantage when it comes to local clerkships and govt positions. Recommended Ground Kontrol arcade. Really stressed the point that L&C students have a large sense of camaraderie - she had the impression that it was different than the cutthroat nature of most schools.

She also stressed very much that you should base a large portion of your decision on where you want to end up. This is TLS gospel but nice to hear from a living, breathing 3L.

Out of curiosity, how did the Professor respond to that?lawyerorbust wrote:I got a call from a Professor a little while back, let him know I needed money in order to go there...hopefully that works!McNulty wrote:A 3L called me last night, and I assume some other folks got calls too? Re: Lewis & Clark 2011 Applicants
So I called admissions last night re: the letter I receieved w/ my admissions packet about running out of scholly money. I told her that I was very interested and wanted to attend but really needed some sort of scholly to make it financially possible. She added me to the list of apps to be reconsidered for $$ in April after 1st seat deposit, and I received an email to that effect.
This morning, I got a call from a lawyer in Portland wanting to congratulate me on my acceptance as well as the "scholarship money that I will be receiving..." Need to call him back and find out what the school told him. Or maybe he misspoke?

That happened to me this morning as well! I received the "you have to wait till april 15 to get scholly money" thing and this made me excited. Maybe he actually doesnt know and is just saying it though
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
