Speaking as a North Carolina resident, I never even bothered applying to Wake. It doesn't make any sense financially. Even if I was out of state, I still wouldn't apply. Who on earth wants to go to school in Winston Salem when you could go to school in Chapel Hill?

And yes, I'm biased.

Where else did you apply?

I put in applications to W&M and Maryland, but they're not serious considerations. UNC's far and away my first choice: I'm a resident (in-state public education FTW), I'm a grad student here now, and I've already developed relationships with both current students and a few professors that put it over the top for me.

i think i read somewhere that you are a grad student working on your master's thesis at unc. i think.

I'm cautiously optimistic. The only strike against me is that I'm a bit of a splitter (165/3.24) due to being an idiot my first semester in undergrad and deciding to get a "hard science" degree (damn you, chemistry!). I just want the waiting to be over.

The Heels handle FSU by double-digits + A victory over Duke on Saturday night, clinching the regular season title + an acceptance from UNC = the greatest week EVER.

OMFG. EVER. I'm going to have to run a little bit this week to get ready for a possible sprint from the Dean Dome to Franklin St. On second thought, I'm just going to bike it.

Nope. I don't expect to hear until Friday, Thursday at the earliest. If we heard by Thursday that'd be fantastic. Trying not to get too freaked out about it, though I've run my interview through my head about 8,000 times. Sometimes I reflect and think I spoke well, sometimes I want to slap my hand to my face. Only time will tell.

I dont even go to carolina. Just born in 919 and parents went there. Lifelong fanhood the very reason you will probably find me at bobs this weekend.

Love Bob's, especially in the summer on the patio. I'm a little stitious, though, and my spot to watch Carolina's games is Spanky's, where I've never seen the Tar Heels lose. Least favorite spot: Top of the Hill, where I'm 0-2.

If you've never been, another great place to watch tar heel games is IP3's.

Au contraire, States said during the Q&A session that it would be today or tomorrow, and he responded this morning to something I'd sent him saying "We'll be in contact shortly." To me, "shortly" means today. Because if it weren't supposed to mean today, then he'd have said "We'll be in contact this week" or something like that. So basically I've had my email up all day and my phone right next to me...

I'm not under consideration for a scholarship, but that hasn't stopped me from developing a pavlovian response to the "new email" notification on my phone. I think I need professional help.

You're right that first he said Wednesday, but then he corrected himself and said "towards the end of the week." But shortly DOES seem to mean sooner than Friday. Who knows! Only Dean States & company. It's past 5:00 PM now so I wouldn't count on anything. Time to get back to midterming...

Anyone have any info on how generous UNC is with scholarships to non-Chancellor's?

My roommate is a 2L and I asked him this too. He got 5k his first year and 10k his second (but the increase was based on his good grades in 1L). Of his friends, he only knew of several people getting 5k and maybe one or two full scholarships. That's not to say there isn't anything in between 5k and full, just passing along info.

He maybe named 7-10 of his friends he knew of getting 5k which is out of a class of 250 or so. Sounds like a little but 5k is about 1/3 instate tuition. Of course, here's hoping for more...

Check LSN: Historically, unless you have ridiculous numbers (i.e. auto admit at T14 or even T6 Acceptance #'s) or are a URM w/ around median numbers, it doesn't look like they give out schollys.
