I thought splitters tend to get admitted fairly late in the cycle in general as they are used to shore up medians?govlife wrote:Yes, to all of this! I guess splitters are just not NYU's game this year. Been waiting since September.
I will never leave you for a silly DLS.
Anywho, 2/24 crew represent. For people admitted this week, does that mean they only have until the first to decide? Also, how long do people have to decide, generally, after being accepted from a WL?
Finally, remember a WL from NYU isn't really a terrible decision. They admit *a lot* of people from the WL regardless of whether this is actually a counter cycle, counter-counter cycle, or just plain old cycle!

In that case, I would not think it is NYU Law. I assume they just haven't got around to notifying anyone yet - since it seems you are not alone in not receiving a firm answer either way.ml0606148 wrote:thanks for the information!!! I painfully and intimately understand the feelings on this thread right now.. I was stuck at 12/13 until just yesterday. All I can say is that it's a weird cycle, but hang in there, they are evidently not done extending offers. In solidarity with you all ~![]()

My experience with other acceptances (that are usually done via phone) is that internationals always get them a bit late, since Deans and assistants have to draft the emails themselves which admittedly takes longer than picking up the phone. Texas sent me a week of admitted student emails without telling me I was accepted, until I emailed them back and asked. I can only assume the dean in charge of informing me the decision simply just forgot...
The area code is Hong Kong's area code, that was why I did not answer to it. I assume even if NYU had called, it would have been US area code?
I am leaning towards "acceptance" now, since I don't think my number warrants throwing my application out without letting me sit on the waitlist. After all, more than 70% of the applicants with my numbers are accepted in past cycles. But maybe there is something in my app NYU just hates, and decides to kill it.

Hey TLS, long-time lurker who agrees with a lot of the sentiment on this thread. I applied to NYU in November as one of my top choices and wound up withdrawing in April not even having received a decision, still "Under Review."

A friend of mine called NYU yesterday and they told her that decisions will be mailed or emailed, we both got DLS yesterday and still haven't received anything, thinking they may have mailed a letter for some reason.

If I remember correctly, last year or prior years waitlisted people had different DLS dates. However I'm not sure if they all received the email st the same time or if they received it once their status checker changed

Sending letters is the most rude thing that schools do, I have no idea what old people still think that is a good idea or "classy". Seriously, email is instantaneous and free!". They know people check their status checkers often. To change to DLS and then wait a week for a letter that may get lost anyway is idiotic.CR7 wrote:A friend of mine called NYU yesterday and they told her that decisions will be mailed or emailed, we both got DLS yesterday and still haven't received anything, thinking they may have mailed a letter for some reason.
I am still mad at Georgetttown for that. Got accepted but never received my acceptance letter. Got an email from the dean two weeks later saying "congratulations again!" Lol.

Everyone who calls NYU gets something different. They were expediting decisions but now some people will have to wait on snail mail as notification? That's rich.

Why would they switch to snail mail at this point in the cycle? Unless it's just for WLs, I don't get why they would change their pattern.SybillAnnDorsett wrote:Everyone who calls NYU gets something different. Re: NYU c/o 2020 Applicants (2016-2017)
Think snail mail is solely for rejections. They'd need to notify waitlisted people more efficiently, as these candidates ostensibly will need to notify the committee by a certain deadline of their choice or lack thereof to remain on the WL.haley12 wrote:Why would they switch to snail mail at this point in the cycle? But this is NYU we're talking about, so I could see them turning to the use of carrier pigeons for the next round of decisions.

Do you know if previous rejections this cycle were sent via email? Snail mail sounds like too much work for a bunch of rejections lol.SybillAnnDorsett wrote:Everyone who calls NYU gets something different. Maybe acceptances are being mailed, so that they don't have to take the time out of rejecting the rest of us to call? Who knows :/CR7 wrote:Do you know if previous rejections this cycle were sent via email? Re: NYU c/o 2020 Applicants (2016-2017)
I literally sent them a letter telling them not to mail me anything, since I am not in the states. If they are mailing me a rejection letter, I swear I will start hating them. It takes weeks for the letter to arrive, and I will have to be left with some hope only to be ding-ed at the end of the roller coaster ride.jjcorvino wrote:Sending letters is the most rude thing that schools do, I have no idea what old people still think that is a good idea or "classy". All, I slept on it over night and realized something. That extra three days of this week really does make all the difference in evaluating applications they have had for 6 months. We are all being very unreasonable expecting quicker answers.

Yeah but they've been taking a lot of heat this cycle so maybe by mailing the letters it shows they put in more effort on our behalf even though they didn'tCR7 wrote:Do you know if previous rejections this cycle were sent via email? Just went and checked beginning of thread and people were getting dings by email... Not sure why they would change that at this point. But I also don't know why they would say that over the phone. Buying time maybe?
