Re: NYU 2011
I am by no means bashing the USPS. I too am amazed by their speed and consistency. I suppose I am just a bit impatient because NYU is my first acceptance and I'd very much like to get my hands on the envelope.aredhello wrote:It's too bad how quick folks are to blame the USPS. It should be noted that the DLS date is when the letters get passed along to the NYU mail center, not when they enter the USPS system. I still think it's pretty remarkable that we can mail something across the country for less than 50 cents, and that 99 out of 100 times, it gets there when they say it will.

Don't worry, once we get rid of collective bargaining, people will stop insulting them. It's not personal, it's all part of the political charade.aredhello wrote:haha sorry -- didn't realize i came across so harsh. am just feeling cranky about all the recent attacks on public employees.

As of 2/08, I have heard from EVERY school but NYU. Every. School. (To be fair, two of those decisions were holds, but still.) UR date 11/03. Seriously? This is just cruel.

They have been reviewing my app since Jan 11. Can someone tell me if this is normal. No acronyms please. I simply can't understand what any of them mean.
Oh, and what does "sticker" mean?
and what do all the acronyms mean? DLS/AWD/UR/WTF?
Thank you.

"Sticker" refers to "sticker price," i.e. having to pay the full price (no scholarship $).Negativezero wrote:They have been reviewing my app since Jan 11. Can someone tell me if this is normal. No acronyms please. I simply can't understand what any of them mean.

Sticker: paying the overpriced full amount for a law schoolNegativezero wrote:They have been reviewing my app since Jan 11. Can someone tell me if this is normal. No acronyms please. I simply can't understand what any of them mean.

DLS: in NYU's case, your status checker will change to Decision Letter Sent when they mail you a decision. So far this cycle, this has meant an acceptance.
AWD: ???? Do you mean ASW? If so, that can be Admitted Students Weekend or Admitted Students Website (once people's status changes to DLS they often check the site to see if their login info works. If it does, hurray acceptance!
UR: Under review.
WTF: The usual meaning
ETA: Whoops someone beat me to it.

Re: NYU 2011
So strange, because Michigan was the second school I heard back from... These decisions seem so arbitrary sometimes. Numbers? From your schools, it seems like we have similar ones, with yours probably somewhat better. (PM me to share, if you like)whitman wrote:Same here. Also UR 11/3. Welcome to the NYU de facto "Hold"/Waitlist. It is like dating... you don't really want to end up with your "safety", but you don't want to let her go until you know that you can do better. That is what NYU is doing to all of us. Basically, they don't love us, but maybe we are as good as it gets.

And you don't want to tell your safety that they are your safety/back-up option... so you string them along for a while. In this case, a long while.

Should I tell NYU then that Michigan proposed and I said yes?SirWilliam1022 wrote:And you don't want to tell your safety that they are your safety/back-up option... so you string them along for a while. In this case, a long while.

It looks like if you aren't in by the middle of March, you aren't getting in at all, based on last year's data.

It's kind of difficult to compare this year and last year seeing as application numbers are down by what, 12-15%? Last year, no one got in off wait lists. I don't know if you can necessarily say the same thing about this year.niederbomb wrote:It looks like if you aren't in by the middle of March, you aren't getting in at all, based on last year's data.

If they waitlist me I'm withdrawing. I'm not going to NYU with no cash.Flips88 wrote:It's kind of difficult to compare this year and last year seeing as application numbers are down by what, 12-15%? Hi, I'm wondering if anyone that's been under review for a couple months already submitted a LOCI or anything else? If so, have you heard back from NYU?
I'm under review for two and half months now...wondering what to do...any suggestions?

Re: NYU 2011
But seriously, I'm in the same position and I think I am going to submit a LOCI right away (like, by tomorrow). The only thing is that the letter might not make it into the hands of whoever has the file right now... but I think it's worth a try. Wish I had written more of a "Why NYU" when it really counted.tlv wrote:Hi, I'm wondering if anyone that's been under review for a couple months already submitted a LOCI or anything else? Has anyone that's submitted a LOCI via email gotten a response from NYU?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
