Re: Columbia 2011!
Has anyone heard anything yet in Florida?
And why do they wait so long between sending out acceptances and sending out wait-list/rejections?

Yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. And he brings VCEs to good little girls!bistduverrueckt wrote:birdlaw117 wrote:LOL @ USPS being privatizedwhathojeeves wrote: Ha you know I just had a conversation along these lines with a friend in the UK, who swore that privatization would make the Royal Mail better. This conversation reminds me of Miracle on 34th Street--the part where the post office saves Santa Claus because it (as an official part of the US government) recognizes Chris Kringle as Santa.

Re: Columbia 2011!
I have to rant for a second, and although it has nothing to do with Columbia (because law school-related mail goes to my parents anyway), I think people ITT will appreciate mail woes.
My mailman ALWAYS puts my mail in my neighbors box. WHY? WHY DOES HE DO THIS? I'm pretty sure it's a felony or something that I always root through their box to pick my stuff out. I want to leave a note but I'm afraid even MORE of my mail will get lost if I do

What I really wanted to say is "offer better value (cost/benefit)". But even that is arguable.CastleRock wrote:There's aguably and then in this case there's reality.r6_philly wrote:Socialist government services arguably run better.CastleRock wrote: Socialism?

In. VCE in NorCal. Applied early Nov. Postmarked 1/26. I was out of town so don't know if it arrived today or yesterday (my guess is yesterday since my neighbor brought it upstairs and there was some mail form today still in my mailbox). Nominated for a fellowship (I think targeted to URMs, but ambiguous from the letter). Best of luck to you all amigos.

See...looking at your LSN profile I can't believe you aren't getting into CLS and this gives me hope...dbrddr wrote:FWIW, no upchuck in Arkansas

if we did not receive a scholarship offer in our admission packet does that mean we will have to pay full sticker price?

Not necessarily, apparently only named schollys come out in the initial acceptance letter, smaller offers go out later.pdiddy89 wrote:if we did not receive a scholarship offer in our admission packet does that mean we will have to pay full sticker price?

Is there any consensus on late november complete dates? As in, is there still hope that a VCE might appear in a later batch or is this too early (first batch or bust)?

There's still hope for sure. Too many people with quality applications haven't gotten their VCE yet.Mailbox101 wrote:Is there any consensus on late november complete dates? As in, is there still hope that a VCE might appear in a later batch or is this too early (first batch or bust)?

Go see Columbia acceptances and read their profile for if they give a date when they received a scholarship offer.pdiddy89 wrote:sorry im a novice at this. what do i look for on LSN?

Re: Columbia 2011!
Lame. Lots of mail today, including GULC, but nothing from CLS.
Can someone tell me how big the admitted students binder thing is? (A picture, if you have it, would be awesome) I have a small, flat apartment mailbox and they left a slip saying something was in the office, so could that be it or do I need to stop hoping? (Office was closed by the time I got home.)

Re: Columbia 2011!
Reading the financial aid part of the accepted students binder, it seems like all scholarship money offered after the initial acceptance is need-based, not merit based. Though some suspect that Columbia gives need-based aid to those who have higher numbers.Knock wrote:Go see Columbia acceptances and read their profile for if they give a date when they received a scholarship offer.pdiddy89 wrote:sorry im a novice at this. what do i look for on LSN?
My question is, if I'm not submitting a NeedAccess (parents make too much to be considered) will I automatically pull myself out of the running for scholarship negotiations? Not that I think Chi or NYU will be giving me much, if anything, but it'd be nice to know if I end up with something from somewhere like Penn.

Hey CONGRATS!!!! Not fair that you were so calm and just happened to find one in your mailbox when you got back, while other people in this thread have been literally stalking their mailman and ARE STILL WAITING!!!! But seriously, congrats.Raramuri415 wrote:In. VCE in NorCal. Applied early Nov. Postmarked 1/26. Ha, thanks. I have a more fatalistic approach to this whole process. Also, I should note: no GULC letter for whatever that's worth.GinaTheresa wrote:Hey CONGRATS!!!! It probably would not fit in there. I have the same type of mailbox, and the mailman left mine in front of my door.eskimo wrote:Lame. Lots of mail today, including GULC, but nothing from CLS.
