Anyone know how a 4-point increase might help my scholarship negotiation chances? (I hear it's otherwise impossible but idk if the new score will change things)

That seems even more skewed and bullshit than USNWR rankings...as far as i can tell it is just based off of data that has been self reported to PayScale...and two salaries at or above $200k has skewed it significantly for Emory. Even if you just look at early career pay....it is reeeeaaaallly low comparatively. Take it with less than a grain of salt.michelekfla wrote:Did anyone see this? Shouldn't you take it with more salt if you're attempting to solicit a higher level of skepticism?squirtlesquad14 wrote: Take it with less than a grain of salt.

Yeah it's such a small sample, it seems any school can be skewed either waysquirtlesquad14 wrote:That seems even more skewed and bullshit than USNWR rankings...as far as i can tell it is just based off of data that has been self reported to PayScale...and two salaries at or above $200k has skewed it significantly for Emory. USNWR says Emory's median starting salary for private is 135k and 57k for public...Are those numbers more reliable?

Well, looks like Emory's out of the T20. That might change things a bit.
ETA: Okay, could be in a three-way tie for 20 with Iowa and Boston.

Something I heard Emory kept on about during ASD last year was how they're a T20, employers know they're a T20, and the T20 prestige brings in firms, businesses and other employers to OCI.splitterfromhell wrote:Why would that matter?TheProdigal wrote:Well, looks like Emory's out of the T20. Re: Emory Law c/o 2019 Applicants (2015-2016)
I don't think it really matters. They've been in the top 20. Right now they're 19 and they can move up and down a little but that doesn't mean all the companies that already respect the school and already attend OCI will just stop. They're a good school and a little movement is normal. Of course they're going to keep talking about it to prospective students because they want them to attend. UF can't mention it enough that they're back to #1 in FL after they lost it for a year to FSU. If I go to FSU or UF they are both respected in FL. If they tumbled down 20 or so (American) spots then there may be reason for concern.TheProdigal wrote:Something I heard Emory kept on about during ASD last year was how they're a T20, employers know they're a T20, and the T20 prestige brings in firms, businesses and other employers to OCI.splitterfromhell wrote:Why would that matter?TheProdigal wrote:Well, looks like Emory's out of the T20. I really wonder why Iowa is placed so high. Its employment numbers (I mean the combined percentage of federal clerkship and biglaw) are roughly equal to those of 30ishes (for instance, OSU), much paler than its ranking peers like USC, BU, ND or Emory.TheProdigal wrote:Something I heard Emory kept on about during ASD last year was how they're a T20, employers know they're a T20, and the T20 prestige brings in firms, businesses and other employers to OCI.splitterfromhell wrote:Why would that matter?TheProdigal wrote:Well, looks like Emory's out of the T20. 19-22 is an insignificant change. Emory is a regional school with *some* pull (but not much) elsewhere in the country. That hasn't changed. Emory enjoys a great reputation with employers in the area - that hasn't changed either.

Re: Emory Law c/o 2019 Applicants (2015-2016)
Need some advice!
I applied October 20th and went complete the 22nd. I've heard nothing from Emory at all, except that one "Applications Under Review" email we all got on February 18th that freaked everyone out. I started getting worried because I saw people with lower scores than me who applied later than I did, getting their acceptances with scholarship info while I still hadn't heard a peep. At this point it's been over 4.5 months, so I emailed admissions a week ago just to confirm that I'm still under review and they haven't responded. Is this just Emory's way and I'm being an overeager applicant, or do I have cause for concern?

Emory seems to have pretty strict cut-off scores for admits - 165 OR roughly 3.8. You're just shy of both those marks. That doesn't mean you won't get accepted, but, I hate to say it, I think it's far from a sure thing. I don't see ANY* admits under both those scores on mylsn for the current cycle. There are only a VERY few under both those marks in past cycles.marisacb1012 wrote:Need some advice!

*edit: there is a 161/3.79 this cycle, but that's the only one. Is your gpa 3.70 or 3.7x ?

3.72. I got into BU with $25,000 per year, if that helps contextualize.njkga wrote:Emory seems to have pretty strict cut-off scores for admits - 165 OR roughly 3.8. Yeah, I'm not sure that's enough. Hey, you never know, though. You haven't been rejected yet! Good luck.
