I know that people applying for academic positions can negotiate positions for spouses, but I've never heard of an admissions boost as you described it. That would be great, though! We're applying to completely different programs, though, so I don't even know if they would be aware that we're married.schocolate wrote:I've been talking to friends who are applying to grad programs with their spouses, and some of them have mentioned that married couples applying at the same time get a boost because schools know if you accept one, the other will likely come too. Might be worth letting the school know that you are married. In a Why X, maybe you could throw in "my spouse is applying to Program Y - both of us consider School Y our top choice." I have no idea if this would affect either one of your admissions chances, but I can't imagine it would hurtcannonballer wrote:I know that people applying for academic positions can negotiate positions for spouses, but I've never heard of an admissions boost as you described it. Thank you! He's been incredibly supportive through the whole process and is actually excited about potentially moving somewhere new. I feel for you ladies with the dilemma about long distance, etc. Its hard enough to make a call about what is best for you and then adding in another person makes it all the more difficult.schocolate wrote:Congratulations!zozo1717 wrote:]
I'm getting married in a few months, so we are being strategic with where I'm applying based on where he can get a job. For my job now, I travel all the time/work weird hours and it hasn't been an issue. A little worried about being a newlywed/1L, but I really will just have to focus on getting a lot of work done during the day. From what I've heard visiting campuses, many students give it the 9-5, 9-6 approach - i.e. they are focused on getting all their readings, etc. done during breaks between classes so when they go home they are pretty much done for the day.

Good point, I can't imagine doing so would actually harm my chances. Can't even think about Why X's yet, though - need to get this PS done!curlious wrote:

Me too - its nice to see how many others are doing the same, it makes me feel less crazy haha. I met my BF first night of college and we've been dating basically ever since. He's planning on moving where I go to law school for the first year, but he's applying to med school after that. Were either looking at my 2/3L years apart and then I get a job where his med school is, or he goes somewhere near me and my first two years on the job are apart. Hard to know which is better... long distance sounds hard no matter what.schocolate wrote:Who's planning on entering law school in a relationship? I actually came to this thread to pull Knope gifs to send to a friend who had a super bad day on Saturday, and they were perfect. It also inspired a Parks and Rec evening with my bf on Sunday. So, thanks ladies! Even though Leslie can do no wrong, Bey is underrepresented on these boards, so I'm gunning for that addition.cannonballer wrote:I pretty much want to get to 100 posts solely to post Leslie Knope gifs.schocolate wrote:You need 100 posts first.bamb00zled wrote:

Probably most people there!theugg wrote:Anyone NOT planning on entering law school in a relationship?! Haha.
I was talking to a friend at Michigan about it and he said most 1Ls live on the quad there all together, and my first thought was that it would be pretty weird for couples to do that so most people must be going in single.

Loving the number of ladies on here with men who are moving to accommodate their law school ambitions! My bf has pledged to do the same (once I know where... ugh) and whenever I remember how uncommon that type of shit would be not too long ago it makes me super happy. I also don't think it ever occurred to him to put his career first, since this is something I've been passionate about doing for a while. Sounds like some of y'all have equally committed awesome flexible partners.

I threw a Galentine's Day party last year! We made quiche and french toast and mimosas, and I made a "[Name], you [adjective] [adjective] [animal]" card for all of the guests.jettison63 wrote:On this note, I'd like to propose a celebration of Galentines this year among participants on this thread.bamb00zled wrote:I actually came to this thread to pull Knope gifs to send to a friend who had a super bad day on Saturday, and they were perfect. Last year I mailed my friends in the US notes and cards with the most fitting Leslie to Anne compliment. But I feel a large breakfast involving waffles coming on this year....
Anyone else mark the occasion?

Re: 0L Ladies - Female C/O 2019 Applicants
My sister lives in Portland and has settled into Oregonian life with enthusiasm. I do love Oregon and could totally see myself living there at some point, but I'm with you - the East Coast pace is so much more my style. Even after 6 years in CA I have to catch myself at work sometimes moving too quickly or speaking too harshly. I also feel like people in San Francisco are incredibly flaky - it's like plans don't even mean anything! Or maybe that's just a problem with our generation as a whole...Hildegard15 wrote: I'm an Oregonian, but I miss the pace of the East Coast. Everyone here is just too relaxed for me. I think the weather in Oregon is lovely, but there is something to be said for suffering 75% of the year, and then the glorious 3 months combined of spring and fall feel so much more special. I think this is a great place to grow up and grow old, but being a young adult is better in the NE if you're like me.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
