Thanks a lot baseball. Cost is also the main reason that is making me think about committing. I got higher scholarships from higher rank schools, but the employment stats of SMU is actually better. So I'm still pending

While true, schools don't usually have you sit in on the boring profs' classes.ilikebaseball wrote:He told me that some of the 1L professors were very boring compared to other school's classes that he sat on.

Please don't pay attention to rank. They are highly irrelevant outside of the top 20. SMU is the best non-top 20 school for Dallas. However a terrible school like... Idk South Carolina is the best non-top 20 school over there and would be better than SMU for South Carolina placement. Sure, SMU most likely could be in the 30's if you compare its numbers, but it really doesn't matter either way lol.justinhanahs wrote:Thanks a lot baseball. Ya I thought about that as well. I will say though, the professor we sat in during ASD seemed really dull, but I was in the very back and didn't really know what he was talking about in the 1st place.BVest wrote:While true, schools don't usually have you sit in on the boring profs' classes.ilikebaseball wrote:He told me that some of the 1L professors were very boring compared to other school's classes that he sat on.

Of the 4 professors I currently have - two are very good lecturers and seem to care a lot about us getting the material, one is a good lecturer but not warm at all, and one is godawful dull (possibly the worst professor i have ever had)

Property is a terrible course anyway.
The high light of Property for me was discovering the outline I was using had off-colour commentary on cases in it.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that Walsh was the room and it was Prof. Gaba.TX_UH wrote: Haha It was Walsh (or something like that) for ASD and it was meh to put it mildly

Easy way to tell - did he seem righteously inflamed by any possible mention of anything remotely connected to environmental law?BVest wrote:it was Prof. Gaba.

Re: SMU Dedman Law c/o 18 Applicants
So found out recently that I have the opportunity to attend SMU buuuuut it will most likely be at sticker (I assume because of my super late application). I know SMU isn't cheap but I primarily plan to practice in Tx which has an excellent legal market without many low points historically. I'm very well conected in the legal market also which most agree is HUGE in terms of success in the Texas legal market.
My question: Is this a possibility I should entertain or should I just retake the LSAT and reapply early next year which would probably allow me to go to SMU for a little less $. My only issue with this is that my inner economist says that whatever I may save by waiting a year would be negligible compared to the amount of income I would stand to gain by working as an attorney one year sooner. PLEASE ADVISE ME SMU TLSers

Get another job in the meantime haha. You won't make THAT much less than the avg 1st year attorney out of smulonghorn65 wrote:So found out recently that I have the opportunity to attend SMU buuuuut it will most likely be at sticker (I assume because of my super late application). Agreed. Use your network to get something at a firm in the meantime. Not worth attending at sticker even with extensive connections, IMOilikebaseball wrote:Get another job in the meantime haha. Well Im already at small but very successful firm. I was considering picking up a second job as a real estate agent. Thus obtaining a real estate license and gaining some more knowledge on contracts from the 30 hours of class on contracts required plus the daily use of them. Think this is a thumbs up or thumbs down?TX_UH wrote:Agreed. Use your network to get something at a firm in the meantime. Also, I was curious is SMU worth attending if I don't necessarily want to be bound to Dallas? I know I'll be receiving a biased answer in this thread but I would like to here y'alls thoughts...... (I'm clearly Texan by that - y'all - usage)

Not really. It places very well in Dallas, but outside of that bubble its not the right school to go to. And yes, thumbs up absolutely. Work your ass off until law school. You may make more money working less hours than you would as an attorney.longhorn65 wrote:Well Im already at small but very successful firm. There are only really 3 schools worth attending at sticker. SMU is probably worth it to most people getting 20 mil or more in scholarships/outside stipends.

Thanks for all your advice. I had the same overall thought process but just wanted some confirmation. Hopefully I can pull of UT next cycle

Re: SMU Dedman Law c/o 18 Applicants
Congrats to those who are attending SMU c/o 2018 and best of luck to those who are hoping to get off the wait list.
Posting here because I live with two guy roommates in a house in the M streets neighborhood fairly close to campus. Great neighborhood with plenty of bars and restaurants in walking distance. One roommate is moving in with his fiancé (aw) so we are hoping to fill his spot sometime this summer, hopefully in August. Rent would be ~$900 per month, still waiting on final rates from landlord. The lot is 7400 feet, renovated, 3 bedrooms. I'm a practicing lawyer in Dallas and other housemate is also a young professional. Looking for responsible male law or MBA student. Message me for additional information. Thank you!

I think you may have misstated size. That's the size of most lots in M streets (and really big for a 3 BR).

Re: SMU Dedman Law c/o 18 Applicants
Quick question to those who are on the waitlist at SMU or know of anyone who is in it. When I last spoke with staff at SMU, they said that their decision for waitlisted applicants would go out (probably) by July. However, in no forum or LSN profiles that I've checked have I seen anyone heard back from them yet.
I was wondering if anyone here had heard back from them or had any sort of communication with them. The orientation from my second choice school starts in roughly two weeks, so I need to get those affairs in order if I am to expect the worst.
Thanks again for any info or advice you guys may have.

To those of you who attended orientation this week, I just wanted to ask if anyone seemed to have dropped last minute? As in there name was called but they were a no show.
Just curious to see if there will be some possible movement on the wait list.
