is institutional aid the same thing as merit aid?? So i can assume that the acceptance package won't have anything about merit aid and definitely nothing about the need-based aid?

Yeah. Curious too.
1. wanted to be in NY above all else, would have turned down any other offer to stay in NY
2. Atmosphere at NYU > Columbia from everyone i've spoken to
3. the 75% LSAT was a retake - lets just say the first was significantly worse
4. months ago, attending NYU was a dream. i worked my ass off for the LSAT with the idea of NYU dangling over my head. its what i wanted.

I'm as debt-averse as the next guy, but it seems to me that if you're going to pay sticker someplace, NYU can make sense. They're particularly well known for placing people in PI jobs, they have a very high employment percentage, and they have a fantastic LRAP. If you were PI dedicated, you had a pretty specific idea of an attainable, and satisfactory, quality of life in the PI field after graduation, and you didn't expect better offers, I could see paying for NYU at sticker. That's a wager with relatively good odds, though it has a severe downside if the bet doesn't pan out.

Or am I wrong?

Why do you feel the need to come into every thread reminding ED applicants of their COA? It is ridiculously obnoxious.

Because it is an almost indefensible financial decision which most people ignore just because it's a highly ranked school

It's fair enough to point that out when people come in here and ask whether they should apply ED; the people who get an ED acceptance presumably know what they are getting themselves into and/or don't care at that point

Zero-hour app above both 75; great softs, charming personality.

Didn't watch for UR; put it on my calendar to start looking @12/1.

It's also an easily defendable position. If you look at LawSchoolTransparency you'll see that graduating in the top 60% of NYU's class basically guarantees you a job at a big law firm. With a starting salary of 160k (possibly 190k by the time we graduate) and monthly payments for 10 or 30 years, it's fairly easy to defend.

Especially when you look at Georgetown and below, where you'll see that the percentage of grads with big law offers plummets. Free education, dramatically lower salary

The point is with those numbers the EDer could've gotten big money at Cornell and probably even NW ED

The point is, though, that they didn't ask for your advice. I understand that you are trying to help. When you consistently say "hope u have $300,000" when the applicant is obviously excited about their news and has probably thought the decision through, it just isn't all that helpful.
