Re: TLS c/o 2018 Applicants
Finally checking in. Engineering student here. I was initially hesitant about going to law school after hearing all the horror stories and I considered a lot of different career options. But yeah, I'm finally here and now definitely sure that law is what I want to do. I hope to make something work at one of the T14s - any of them would be fantastic.
I did come in a little late; I made my CRS on July 7th and left a 172 LSAT score sitting around since March. I just got my transcript processed today - LSAC GPA of 3.88 . I haven't gotten a single fee waiver yet, not even any based just on LSAT (they do that, right?) and I'm wondering if that is just because my CRS has only existed for two weeks or if I should be worried that I haven't seen any waivers yet.
Good Luck to the TLS Class of 2018!

Welcome pulstar! We are super similar applicants; I also took the LSAT in February and we have identical GPAs. Also haven't gotten any fee waivers for this cycle; I wouldn't worry about it just yet.pulstar1 wrote:Finally checking in. Engineering student here. Guys, I'm linking to the Spivey Q&A Thread in the OP. It's now in the "Company Rep Forum," which is under the lounge.

I didn't get fee waivers until after apps opened fwiw and I had a June score on file the summer before apps for that cycle opened.xylocarp wrote:Welcome pulstar! I don't even know how this is possible unless they cap the upper reaches of CRS- which maybe they do for YP.xylocarp wrote: Welcome pulstar! Re: TLS c/o 2018 Applicants
Good luck this cycle everyone!
I just wanted to drop in and say apply broadly and negotiate, negotiate, negotiate. You can save yourself upwards of $50,000 or more at fantastic schools like CCN and lower T-14s just by being persistent. I feel compelled to make a point of this because I came oh so close to not applying at all to a lower T-14 that gave me an amazing offer that I turned into an absurd amount of money at a CCN given my numbers. That $25 dollar app fee was the best money I have ever spent. After you negotiate once, try it again and maybe again after that. It worked 3 times for me. Your initial scholarship offer at a school is the bare minimum that school will give you, not a final offer. Remember that.
With regards to the fee waivers people seem concerned about, most of them are offered in October. This can be fairly annoying for September applicants. I'm still pissed about applying to NYU and getting a fee waiver 2 hours later. If you don't get fee waivers to schools you want to apply to, just ask. Most schools hand them out happily if you ask. I'd say half of my fee waivers I had to ask for. Wait till apps open, send a solidly worded email, and you will be fine.
I'm rooting for all of you, it should be an exciting year. Good luck again!

Re: TLS c/o 2018 Applicants
Hey everyone! Quick question that I didn't think necessitated a different thread. My current LSAC GPA is a 3.66, but after this semester, which will be an extremely easy one relative to past semesters, it should be over or at a 3.7. My question is, assuming I get an LSAT score I'm okay with this September, do you think I will benefit more from applying early in the cycle as soon as I get my score back, or holding off and giving my GPA that extra bump to 3.7 and applying early December? I'm thinking there's probably a negligible difference but just wondering if anyone has thoughts on this. Thanks!

I think that sort of sounds like anything in the whole self-promotion genre of writing. Which is why applying to things sucks.smccgrey wrote:Ugh I was moderately happy with what I wrote immediately after writing it, but now I hate it. I didn't even have to write one for UG bc lolsports. I thought of writing one with every stereotype in it, just to have something to laugh at.middlebear wrote:
