Has anyone heard anything about financial aid or how much tuition is going to be for next year yet? They mentioned at the admit day it was going to come out around now.

I was told that they'll start looking at it at the beginning of May, and they'll start notifying people of the fin aid packages about mid-May.

I submitted an email 4/14. Heard nothing until last Friday when I received a "not able to increase scholarships at this point in our cycle... may review scholarships later in the summer if more money becomes available." So for me it was about 2 weeks to hear back from them.

It's pretty legit. New stadium's coming together nicely, as is the new university center.

Pink's Pizza across from the Law Center did just fail a food safety inspection, though.

The UHLC indicates 10600 for room and board. Meaning that the monthly allotment of an indivudual approximates to 1175 per month. I have had a bad string of three roommates (shockingly bad in different ways haha), so I would like to live alone for my first year of law school. Is this 10600 a feasible idea for me to afford a 1 bedroom/studio apartment near the school and eat something besides ramen?

I'm also super unfamiliar with the Houston area (and will be visiting later in the month), so what complexes are best for living?

That number seems exceedingly low. The 509 report shows $19,000 which seems more in line with reality. When I first saw your number I wonder if it wasn't just for one semester.

As to the latter part of your question, I'm about 8 years out of touch with Houston apartments, but the Midtown area has some decent apartments... probably 1100-1300 for a studio/one bedroom though. Also going south on Main/Greenbriar/Fannin will find some apts for decent prices, but I haven't been to that neighborhood in a while. Either area makes for an easy commute to UH, just from two different directions.

Apparently the 509 "living expenses" include those other things, so $10,600 is what they're claiming. But you'd be hard pressed to do that. My wife's 1 BR was $800/mo 9 years ago. (Before utilities).

Houston is special in that just a few blocks in the other direction you could have much cheaper rent. How about Sunnyside? (lol)

Not to be annoying, but I'm trying to figure out whether or not I should ask them for one when I call tomorrow to set up my vist. So... Do they give a stipend for someone to come visit? And if so, what is the distance requirement?

I know they were offering up to $400 travel stipend for the April 4th admitted students preview day. I live in Houston, so i did not look into it; but they did not state a distance requirement with that offer. I would recommend you just ask, the worst they can do is say NO. Or if you can wait until the later admitted students day in July, I'm sure they will offer it again.

okay, so I just got off the phone with the admissions office and I was able to get a date out of them for waitlistees. They do not expect any movement for the waitlist till mid July(I believe the 15th), the next seat deposit deadline.

That makes things simple for me!

I'm pretty sure Houston does not take a 2nd seat deposit. There is a Registration commitment form due on June 1, 2014 instead of more money down. Not sure where you got your information.

The Admissions office. Maybe he meant a seat deposit from a round that is due in July, I do not know. I am simply passing on the information that was provided to me.

Are you going to UH? I paid the seat deposit last month and haven't heard anything about this commitment form you're referring to.

I'm not sure if people on here have access to it, but the Texas Lawyer put out a list of the number of summer associates at larger Texas firms from each law school.
