Also got it, super cool idea. I feel like a lot of school forget that a good chunk of law students are picking up lives, jobs, , etc to come to their school and have partners and maybe kids. Professional students care a LOT more about housing, the city in general, quality of live beyond the dorms, etc. The packet was basically a bound, almost 200 page document, and while I haven't read it yet, it looks like it's half about the school and half about "everyday living"--there are sections on things like Restaurants, Pets, Health Care, airports, Buses and Trains, etc.

ND, this is seriously awesome.

Also got an email newsletter in the ol' inbox today. I know that we have had much better sources than I saying that the week of Feb. 7th is likely, but just in case anyone wants more confirmation, there was a 'scholarship update' thing in the email that says, "The Office of Admissions will be making merit and need-based scholarship decisions in the beginning of February. Those who qualify for a scholarship will be notified via email." So, it's coming soon! ;)

+1. This book specifically directed toward new/admitted students is very impressive and clearly took a serious amount of time and effort.

Did anyone write a financial aid letter to the law school admissions office? If so, what all did you include?

edit: meant the need based letter that was optional for our application

i wonder how this essay works. does it really give the student a chance to receive an independent "need based grant" other than the merit based scholarship?

From what I understand, there is very little in the way of need-based aid at NDLS.

Just got the admissions packet. Wow, was that cool. I just sat there reading through the whole thing, front to back. Notre Dame is officially one of my top choices now.

This may be a dumb question...but by this, do you mean they don't give out much need-based scholarships/grants that you don't have to pay back? They still give out whatever loans you need, right?

To my understanding, loans tend to be federal, not given out by the school itself.

Not to state the obvious or dissuade you from choosing Notre Dame (obviously), but you shouldn't be picking a law school based on the admissions packet.

Oh, I'm certainly not. It's a bit more complex than that. I was a bit worried about going to a conservative catholic university, and the admissions packet made me feel that Notre Dame is a school I could feel at home at. All things being equal, Notre Dame has objectively the best employment numbers of any school I've been accepted to. The only thing that was holding me back was that worry. I still feel that I would be even more at home at WUSTL, but this definitely makes Notre Dame a viable choice for me.

Probably because it notices you hanging out over there in the WUSTL thread all the time. ND is a classy school and doesn't want to share, especially with a super attractive school that openly flaunts its money all the time.
