Did you two get the $5k boost between now and the initial $13k scholarship?
I'd be so happy if they offered me another 10 or 15k

Feminist pride. Love it. These forums are highly male-centric, as is most of the legal profession. This is the only factor I am aware of that causes me to question my career choice. Lawyers, of all people, should be sensitive to others. Alienating OC, the judge, or your potential client with a subtle assumption about who they are or what they value can be a very expensive oversight. I've only been in court about ten times (as a legal assistant) but I've seen attorneys say things in court that are vaguely misogynistic and have the female judge completely turn on them. Discrimination is costly and courtesy is cheap.yeslekkkk wrote:ha. Sorry, this all got taken so seriously. I know "their" isn't technically correct, nor is using the wrong pronoun. I'm not an extreme feminist, but I am a feminist. It's just annoying after awhile reading "he" for any time someone writes about me in third person. This isn't the only time it's happened. Some might default to their own gender, but it doesn't make it justifiable. So, I should probably default to my own gender and just start calling everyone "she". I'll start doing that. Again, checking out.

Bummer. That's a bad sign for those of us who got the 5k bump then...

Re: UC Hastings c/o 2017 Applicants (2013-2014)
I didn't receive the additional 5k bump and only had the initial 13k, so I emailed the admissions office last night asking for an increased scholarship. I just got a response from Greg Canada with a 5k bump
I'm glad I asked.

I'm glad I asked.

Just received notification that I got the $5k Dean's Scholarship, in addition to the $13k I received about a month ago.

Hmm. Anyone else get that 15k bump mentioned by other two posters? (Not doubting you guys got it; I want to figure how I can get it)
It seems like most of us got the 5k bump but not very many got the 15k bump...

I totally will be. I'm meeting with a few people on that day as is so I'll ask in a private conversation. I forget, did you go to last ASD or are you going to this one?Dingo Starr wrote:Ask about it at the ASD.

Any LEOP folks from LA? I was at this weekend's ASD but missed the LEOP 3:30 pm reception.

Re: UC Hastings c/o 2017 Applicants (2013-2014)
Has anyone tried negotiating a higher scholly? I got into Hastings with the 13k and I've got 25k at Cardozo that I was hoping to use to get Hastings up.
Also, does anyone know when we get our financial aid money? I won't be able to put down money for an apt until it comes through and I'm thinking how awful it would be to have to be worrying about finding a place after classes start, so I am hoping it comes a bit earlier?
Thanks!

I've asked them if they'll consider helping me out some more by giving me more. No final result yet but we have 8 days till deposit deadline. The housing part won't be bad at all. Craigs list. Even I'm offering rooms at my place. It'll be just fine. Breathe lol

From what I remember at ASD, financial aid money comes in RIGHT before the first day of school. I would call Financial Aid and talk to them about your concerns, see if they have any advice.Bronxguy87 wrote:

Also, I disagree with Moonlight about housing. If you want a place IN San Francisco, it is not easy, and finding a place after classes start would likely be a nightmare. Housing is incredibly competitive, especially for any rooms/apts that are somewhat reasonably priced. If you're willing to live outside the city, it won't be nearly as bad. If you're looking for just a room to rent, you may find a place that is more flexible with when you put a deposit down.

Oh yea of course I should have specified. Housing IN San Francisco will always be expensive and hard to find. Outside of SF like East Bay or even South Bay will be so much easier and better in my opinion.altthymes wrote:From what I remember at ASD, financial aid money comes in RIGHT before the first day of school. Financial aid doesn't come in right before classes. The funds will come in right before classes but the award letters will come in long before for scholarships. They stated loans can be assumed you will have it if you meet the basic criteria

Sorry, that's what I meant to say - that the money shows up in your bank account right before classes, not that you don't know what you'll get until then.Moonlight wrote:Oh yea of course I should have specified. Yea so back to negotiations. Any thoughts on if we'll get a bump like two posters earlier who got a 15k bump? I'd like to get another 10K bump and that would make life so much nicer. Have you sent them a negotiation thing yet?
