Not really much else to do except speculate as we wait endlessly.untar614 wrote:I don't know, things have been weird and it's just really hard to speculate. Do we have any idea what is going on here? I haven't been following this thread at all. Are we anticipating a lot of JS1-rejects off the WL?

We know they're aiming for 1200 JS1s and if they stick to the historical admit numbers (about 860 to enroll 550) that implies about 350 JS1s will ultimately not get offers. Beyond that its tough to say what our chances are but I'm sure somebody will try to make a guess. :d

I got a JS1 as well - congrats to everyone else!
Maybe there's hope yet...

JS1! Quick question - I was planning on sending an updated resume tomorrow, is it still okay to do that now that I have an interview? Also one reason I updated my resume was to indicate a summer job with a law firm i just got. Is that silly, or worth putting on?

Got my WL notice today. No JS1. I presume it'll just be a slightly more prestigious rejection.

Okay, not to be a downer, but I randomly asked a non-law (i.e., knows nothing about the admissions cycle) friend: if there are approx 500 ppl on their FBook page, how many does he think would be accepted? he said, hm...probably 800.
Are we WAY over-estimating the number of already accepted students?

Re: Harvard Waitlist 2013
Sorry, i mean: how many students (in total) does he think have already been accepted?
Also, looking at the NYU c/o 2016 FB page, it looks like they only have 150 students on their fbook page...but doesn't NYU accept at least 1000 students/year?
Are we way off base here?

By trying to determine the number of acceptances given out by the number of people in the facebook group, yes, we are way off base.shakespeare wrote:Sorry, i mean: how many students (in total) does he think have already been accepted?

Sorry, it's like 5 a.m. here. I meant underestimating. My B. Ok, we really shouldn't start inserting lay speculation into the thread.shakespeare wrote:Sorry, it's like 5 a.m. here. I meant underestimating. My B. Re: Harvard Waitlist 2013
Congrats to the new JS1s!
I guess with all the JS1s now, it does look like they are interviewing most of the waitlist. Maybe I shouldn't have gotten so excited about getting a JS1 a few weeks ago after all. :-/
Maybe they are just going to interview as many people now as possible and then pick out their favorites as spots become available this summer rather than doing smaller waves of JS1 and subsequently JS2s as needed?
Or maybe they are trying to protect their yield numbers like someone mentioned previously - waitlisting candidates they are interested in and then seeing if they stay on so they don't waste an acceptance on someone who has already decided to attend elsewhere.
Maybe, maybe, maybe. Only time will tell, but in the meantime, here's to more speculation!

Half sounds about right after today's. Makes me feel even worse for not getting one
I'm getting that sinking feeling in my stomach that I had when everyone was getting into NYU before me.

for some more useful speculation, when signing up for the interview, i noticed there were 2 options for the second drop down menu - one said "HLS Interviewer" and the second one said "Interviewer, HLS". Does anyone know if one of these correspond to a particular interviewer?

Re: Harvard Waitlist 2013
Congrats to all the JS1s.
If you look back a few pages ago there were some calculations about how many people will get JS1s. My estimate is about 3/4 of the waitlist. Either way, there are definitely planning to give a lot of people interviews.
@shakespeare: I'm sure your friend is a great person, but that kind of quote is really not helpful. Our estimates are based partly on last year's results. We think they accepted over 150 from the waitlist. Also, the NYU FB group can't be used for comparison. It's run by students, and they have no way of getting in touch with all the admits. So the group is just people who happen to hear about it, probably on TLS. The Harvard FB group is run by the admissions office, and they solicit every admit to join.
@txdude45: What's the point of the list if it's locked? It's not the same if everyone enters the info somewhere else. Part of what was nice about this year's list is that people could go back and update their results.
