Re: Notre Dame Class of 2016 Applicants
Also remember that debt is not always equally comparable. So its depends on where you want to work. Many of NDs peers (according to USNews rank that is) are not going to place as well as ND outside of their given spheres of influence. U of Washington, USC (in '09&'08 86% of grads stayed in Cali), etc. are not going to place in NY & D.C. as well as Notre Dame, but UW will place really well in Washington, USC Really well in Cali etc(yet ND still has a good chance to work in Wash & Cali). So 20K or 100K debt is not equal at these places (depending on your goals). If you go down the list further.... to say Cardozo, and you chose Cardozo 20K debt over ND 100K debt, but your goal is to work in Texas.....you might want to view debt differently, because you most likely will get a good job in Texas from ND, but much more challenging from Cardozo. But if you want NYC, then maybe a bit different (altough I would probably still chose ND in this scenario). Bottom Line, make a educated decision when comparing where to go vs. Debt vs. Your Goals.

Princr could also have family help and savings. If he were to get $20k/year in scholarship and his family kicked in $25k/year, it's not completely unreasonable that he could graduate with ~$20-30k in debt. Spending $75k on an education and financing $75k on an education are two totally different things and should change the calculation.

Any word on waitlist consideration? I know they say they don't start reviewing until after the deposit deadline but just wondering if anyone heard something out of the grape vine. I'm just about to send my loci as I was waiting until I found a law-relevant 0L summer job.

It definitely helps not having to worry about rent, books, transportation, food, and other shit. I think I definitely would have chosen a different profession if I had to take out loans for living expenses in addition to the crazy amount that we already pay for tuition alone.alwayssunnyinfl wrote:Princr could also have family help and savings. Well I just leveraged a connection I had with a finance corp to do "some legal work" with their team. Most likely answering phones but at least it's somewhat legally-based.

Does anyone think scheduling a visit would have a positive impact on my waitlist consideration? I know they say that they don't use interviews but it has to have at least a subconscious impact!

yes it might. it may not, but it would more likely help then hurt. i would say if its affordable for you to go and/or you know you dont want to be anywhere but ND..then go for it. but if the cost is high for you to visit it might not be worth your time.lschhope111 wrote:Does anyone think scheduling a visit would have a positive impact on my waitlist consideration? How do you feel about it? I feel cautiously optimistic. I'm a non-trad URM, legacy, 4.0 gpa, summa cum laude, BUT - BOMBED the LSAT! I did complete the Why ND? essay as well. You?jvincent11 wrote:+1Jules176 wrote:Decision made 3/19! Waiting...

What do you mean by "bombed the LSAT?"Jules176 wrote:How do you feel about it? I feel cautiously optimistic. I'm a non-trad URM, legacy, 4.0 gpa, summa cum laude, BUT - BOMBED the LSAT! I did complete the Why ND? essay as well. You?jvincent11 wrote:+1Jules176 wrote:Decision made 3/19! Waiting...
If your score is less than 160, I don't see how ND would accept you (at best you'd get a WL).
Good luck though!
edit: Did not see the URM part...damn you are in an interesting situation.

Re: Notre Dame Class of 2016 Applicants
See what I mean?? I am not trying to be arrogant but all the other parts of my application are SOLID. I wrote a killer personal statement, my LORs were phenomenal, my gpa is great, I'm nontraditional (meaning I'm 37 year old and had a 15 year career in the legal industry and went to school at night while raising a family), URM (Hispanic female), my father graduated from ND, I'm Catholic (though that should have nothing to do with it), I have done plenty of community service every year including pre-law mentoring program (basically volunteer to help/shadow attorneys at a worldwide telecommunications company, I volunteered for a major political campaign (I didn't tell them who - just in case), and I did write the Why ND essay (not sure how great THAT was but I did put forth the effort). It doesn't sound like much, but I put myself through school and paid for it myself while working a 60 hour/wk job. I will graduate with no debt. The only thing that sucks is my LSAT score and it doesn't matter what I do, that test OWNS me. Let's just say I'm in the bottom half. If you really want to know, I will message it to you but I'm completely embarrassed by it so I don't want to broadcast it.boblawlob wrote:What do you mean by "bombed the LSAT?"Jules176 wrote:How do you feel about it? So, there you go - everything else is stellar. LSAT score? Complete crap!
I won't be surprised either way, you know?

I saw "decision made" on 21st, because I live overseas, and it may take some time for the mail to reach me. BUt meanwhile I have to make decisions about some other schools before April 1st, so I asked them if they could reveal the result in email. this afternoon, I was informed to be admitted by email
Good luck you guys!

Congrats! My mail was already delivered today. No envelope. I'm guessing Ive been WL'd or dinged and I can't say I am surprised but it is disappointing.thatgirl wrote:Decision made 3/19. Just received the priority mail envelope - in!
