Email, they have already made the first round of decisions and the next wave is likely going to be around April 9.

i see i see. was just accepted a week and a half ago, so might be in the pile. was i suppose to email then and request to be on the scholarship list? or is everyone automatically considered for merit scholarships?

Two unrelated questions:

1. I got a request last week and just sent in my family's tax forms for consideration for a need-based grant. Anyone know what the turnaround is for need-based stuff? Do they offer them on a rolling basis, or will these come out the same time as the next wave of scholarships in April? Also, does the fact that they requested my tax forms mean I have a better chance at getting one?

2. I'm going to visit GULC next Thursday and I noticed that the only class I could sit in on is 10:00-12:00. My plane doesn't get in until 9:00, so I doubt I can make it in time for the start of class, but I could probably catch the last half. Would it cause any problems to sneak in the back halfway through? Would that be rude?

I don't know about question 1, but for question 2, you shouldn't worry about coming in halfway through. There is a 5-10 minute break in the middle of two-hour classes, so just wait for the break and then go back in with the rest of the students. But if you're flying into DCA (National) airport, you should be able to make it in time for the start of class if your flight isn't delayed.

I don't know about question 1, but for question 2, you shouldn't worry about coming in halfway through. I wasn't wild on the idea of living in a dorm-like environment to begin with. I'm not even decided on GULC, but if I do come, I'll be trying to meet some people to go in on a house. I like communal living, and I think it'd be cool to share the dreaded 1L experience in a home.

Are you doing the random roomate thing? I thought about it and I am not goig to do that..in undergrad i had bad luck with that- getting paired with someone I was not compatible with. I think it would be better if i found my own roomate

Yea, I am going to go with the random roommate for now .. if I find some compatible who wants to stay on campus (before May) .. I will let the folks at housing know about it. For now, I am hoping that things would be a little different from undergrad. I did type in some preferences in the optional text box when I signed up.

msblaw: There are a LOT of housing options in the DC area that are more affordable than living right by the Law School, on-campus or otherwise (my apologies in advance if this is not the case, but I'm working off the assumption that you're not a DC native/current inhabitant).

No matter where you go, DC is a town that works better if you have a roommate. The base rate for studios and 1 room apartments is high, but the increase in cost is small when you go up to 2 and 3 bedroom places, and with multiple people in a larger apartment or house the costs go down incredibly. Add to the fact that DC's metro is (generally) quick, reliable, and convenient to a lot of areas, and there's a good range of places you can live that get you quickly to the Law school when you need it.

If you want to be close enough to the law school so you don't have a for-realsies commute, I recommend looking for places in Takoma Park and Silver Spring. Both areas are about 15 minutes on the train to the law school, and there are a TON of somewhat affordable places right by the metro. Takoma Park is fairly suburban, it's very liberal and family-friendly: pretty scenery but not a lot going on nightlife-wise. Silver Spring has more of a city-feel, more things to do but less space and community.

If you don't mind a commute but want some nice digs at an affordable price, try up the Red Line from Grosvenor to Shady Grove. I personally live right near Shady Grove these days, and though my commute will be about an hour (which is what I do to work currently anyway), I have a two-story townhouse with a garage for under 2K a month - pretty frickin' sweet. Also the western areas of the orange/blue line out into VA have a lot of housing options with a 30-50 minute commute to Georgetown Law, but I personally have never lived in most of that section so I can't comment much further there.

Q1: I called fin.aid yesterday after submitting parental docs as well. Rep answering the phone said apps are being reviewed on a rolling basis with a target to begin releasing the first batch of need-based award letters on Monday, March 19th (but could be sooner). Don't know if the solicit for parental info implies anything but here's to hoping for mucho dinero for us both.

This is personal preference, but don't believe them when they say that building is like an apartment building. The place looked like a straight up dorm when I was there. Which really turned me off, but might work for some people.

Turnaround time was about a week for me.
