22k a year scholarship with no stips. Yay? On Case's website they claim an estimated COL of roughly 17k a year. Anybody who is familiar with Cleveland COL, does this seem like a reasonable estimation? I would think between 10k-13k is more likely given that you can find really great deals for cheap apartments and house rentals.

P.S., I e-mailed the admissions office (which handles scholarship decisions apparently) and they responded to me in e-mail with my scholarship info. Maybe worth a shot for some of you anxiously awaiting a response.

Yeah, I live in Cleveland Heights, which is a pretty popular place for grad students, and I was shocked that they said it would cost that much. I even live by myself, so that makes it even more expensive. I did the math and estimated my personal cost of living for 12 months (I would probably just be staying here in the summers, so why not make it realistic) was about $14,400. For me this includes food, utilities (I pay gas and electric, but not heat), cable and internet, and the occasional weekend drink I don't know where they got those numbers from, my rent is currently $710 (includes covered parking), and when I lived with a roommate it was $400, so that would cut down my estimated COL even more.

Anybody have any suggestions for places to look for housemates if I wanted to live in a house with other young professionals/ grad students? I have lived in apartments a few times before, and I think I would much rather live in a more homey environment with roommates who share semi-similar interests/aspirations.

Honestly, Craigslist is full of students. That's where I found my old roommate. Granted, she turned out to be a crazy bitch, but you win some you lose some. Also, Case's admitted student site (http://www.law.case.edu/Login.aspx?Retu ... dents.aspx) has a roommate search. I'm not looking for one so I don't know what that database is like though.

Although, she might be leaving me to get free housing as an RA - so if you are a female, generally awesome, can put up with a slight mess, love cats and don't hog the tv (because I hog the tv) and want to live in a sunny newly renovated 2bdrm near Coventry let me know.

edit: The roommate search has a decent number of listings come June-July ish. I think a lot of people use it. But my very strong advice when looking for a roommate: grill the shit out of them before you move in with them. Figure out if you are going to be fighting for the bathroom, wanting to keep the temperature at different temps, have similar times to be loud v. quiet. I know a bunch of people (usually guys) who just moved in with the first person that contacted them - it didn't work out so well. By being upfront as possible about who you are makes it a lot more likely you'll have a pleasant roommate relationship.

Haha same! As a grad student there I'm finding that it's a really great place for students. The people are friendly, it's dirt cheap, and we have really good food. Seriously. Really. Good. Food. I'd also like to point out that it has been over 80 degrees for the last 3 days, so I don't know why people complain about the weather

I'm at case now. I took out 14K a year in living loans and i'm doing fine

They are nice houses, most with cute little porches and backyards - but are a tad further from school and much farther from Coventry (the bars) than the apartments. Although, there are still a few houses in the Coventry area, and as a compromise- there are a lot of houses around Coventry that are split into apartments.

I live in Cedar Fairmount and LOVE IT. It's so neighborhoody and much nicer than Coventry. I used to live over there, but it's really starting to go downhill. Yeah, it's close to the bars, but it's also like living on a college campus. It can get really loud at times. When the weather's nice it's not a far walk from Cedar Fairmount to the Coventry area. Cedar Lee is a bit further but has nice bars too. Only thing there is that then you're by the high school.

I just looked that one up and it looks really nice but it's $199 a night, so it looks like I'm going to have to go to the Hampton inn one that they have on their page for $119. Which still seems like a lot to me.

the doubletree in the old tudor arms building just recently opened up and they have a discount for case students. Its also easily walkable to the school from there. I think my parents paid 99 dollars a night when they visited me last semester, but that may have just been a special.

The Tudor Arms is gorgeous!!! I went there for a reception once, they really did a good job renovating that place. Just don't walk around outside after dark...

I remember getting an email from Case sometime that had what the tuition next year will be but I can't find it now. Does anyone else have that number? I'm trying to figure out finances.

Just sent my email to the dean asking for more $$. Seems like everyone is doing the same thing and not getting anymore, but who knows. I'll let you know how my request turns out!
