Since I haven't seen you on this thread before, I'll ask. What does this mean, exactly?jbabs wrote:Things to be thankful for this Thanksgiving: In via status-checker!
I see you're a 1L at W&M. Are you transferring to Iowa, got in via status checker, and are announcing it? Or is this just sort of a "hope you all hear back soon" post?

This suggests he's a 0L. I'm hoping that this is either a flame or I get accepted soon.

I'm confused as well. I'm guessing it isn't true...of the 30 people that have applied on LSN, no one has indicated any movement other than him. Hopefully we're just seeing the first signs of an acceptance wave? This is strange.I'm confused too. http://lawschoolnumbers.com/jbabs

Re: IOWA 2012
If you search their post history, you'll see them mention in another thread that they're a 1L at William and Mary, and their profile indicates they've got residency in Iowa. It seems not unreasonable to conclude that they may be a transfer student, and that transfers may be handled earlier than standard admissions.shredderrrrrr wrote:I'm confused as well. Or possibly a wellwisher/troll, but I think the former supposition holds more water.

I'm just going to assume he meant he wishes us good luck... no movement on the status checker front here since early October when I went UR.

Status checker will say "decision rendered" and you'll get an email stating your decision.

It's not a well-wishing. The LSN profile shows accepted to Iowa.

I apologize for being unclear. I'm an 0L, and last night when I looked at my status checker, I saw this:

If this is true, I sincerely apologize and congratulate you. I'm still cautiously skeptical, but hopeful.

He didn't do post about being a 1L at William and Mary. He was asking someone a question about being a 1L there. Since he quoted them, it showed up at the top of his posts. This is not a flame.Opie wrote:If this is true, I sincerely apologize and congratulate you. I'm still cautiously skeptical, but hopeful.

Congrats, jbabs!
I looked at my status checker and under fees it says "first deposit" and "second deposit". I'm still at "application received" but I haven't noticed this before. Should I be excited?
P.S. Happy Thanksgiving!!

Question for jbabs: did you get an email when the checker changed?

No, I haven't received any emails since September - the ISIS link, IIRC.Opie wrote:Question for jbabs: did you get an email when the checker changed?

This seems to be a change from years past. Anyone have any thoughts on this?jbabs wrote:No, I haven't received any emails since September - the ISIS link, IIRC.Opie wrote:Question for jbabs: did you get an email when the checker changed?
Communicate now with those who not only know what a legal education is, but can offer you worthy advice and commentary as you complete the three most educational, yet challenging years of your law related post graduate life.

Definitely a change from years past. Looks like status checker will be updated before you get a welcome email. I'm guessing because so many people probably called admissions when the status checker said "decision rendered" that they didn't want to deal with it.

Well, it looks like it's time to start obsessively checking the status checker again then.

Re: IOWA 2012
So I did a self guided tour of Boyd over the past week. (I plan to do a real one when I can). I would have to say my impression of the school dropped somewhat once I saw the inside of the building. It was just unimpressive, but obviously there is much more to choosing a law school than the facilities.
It is somewhat like wearing nice clothes, though. When you dress up, you act differently; more professional maybe. Then when I got accepted to Marquette this week, I learned how fantastic their facilities are (brand new building), and the fact that they have a sports law specialty is pretty interesting to me. Well my question is this:
Would I really be stupid to go to a tier 2 (Marquette) over Iowa, if accepted at both. I wont be receiving any scholarship money from Iowa, but expect a substantial amount from Marquette, so the cost could either be equal or less to go to Milwaukee. I notice that their average salary out of school is substantially lower, and I am also interested in the JD / MBA route to an extent, knowing that Tippie is fantastic but not discounting that Marquette has a strong business program also.
What a tough decision I'll have to make. I am visiting Marquette hopefully in January; but Boyd didn't impress me to say the least, and UIowa has always done a terrible job of selling itself to me. That being said, their ranking is much stronger. Maybe someone can tell me what Iowa has to offer that justifies its #26 ranking, that would be helpful.
Oh yeah and GO HAWKS.... beat Nebraska!
