Well one last plan. Check if both schools have binding seat deposits that REQUIRE you to withdraw from everywhere else, and enroll. Since STCL is only 100 bucks for the first deposit, you -could- pay both, provided that neither one is binding upon you to enroll. I don't consider it to be unethical if they aren't binding, and you are still waiting on a top choice to decide if you are going to be accepted.

for me it depends on how much they cost, ill have to check. If its only hundo ill do it. But i think one of the schools was 3-500 and im not gonna drop a grand for a "just in case"

Well, just for reference:Tonio wrote:for me it depends on how much they cost, ill have to check. If its only hundo ill do it. But i think one of the schools was 3-500 and im not gonna drop a grand for a "just in case"
Just remember to make SURE that neither seat deposit REQUIRES you to matriculate. You don't want the schools to be upset, and risk your acceptance. But if they aren't binding, go for it.STCL Status Checker wrote:First Seat Deposit: 4/15/2011 100.00

$100.00 is nothing compared to the cost of your legal education.

Is there some fine print you can read or something on the deposit that lists that, cuz i dont want to call up and be like "oh hey is this binding?" lol cuz that makes me look like a flaketxadv11 wrote:Well, just for reference:Tonio wrote:for me it depends on how much they cost, ill have to check. Re: South Texas 2011
I tried to find something on the subject on the site, but couldn't. I think you could call and explain that they are your #1, but the deposit date for #2 is approaching (4/1) and you are worried about losing your chances...etc Heck, you could even block your number from a home phone and ask an anonymous questions if you were concerned. As long as you aren't purposefully leading schools on and submiting multiple deposits that are binding, I just can't see where you are in the wrong. If they wanted to eliminate situations like this, they'd either get the the applications faster, or make the seat deposit binding and absolute (which is may actually be, we are unsure)Tonio wrote:Is there some fine print you can read or something on the deposit that lists that, cuz i dont want to call up and be like "oh hey is this binding?" lol cuz that makes me look like a flaketxadv11 wrote:Well, just for reference:Tonio wrote:for me it depends on how much they cost, ill have to check. Don't forget, this is kind of a business relationship. Law school is a major investment. We should expect a level of professionalism and timeliness from ANY school. We are the consumer, and pay a great deal of money to them. Obviously, this can be taken overboard, but in the scope of things, they owe us decisions (and scholarship
offers) BEFORE we miss out on other schools.
Hell, the application for fall was the LAST one out of more than 20 schools to which I applied, to come available.

Yeah, hopefully this will be the most frustrating issue we have. I spoke with another graduate from STCL (she is a litigator-class of the mid 1990's) who said the education was excellent, teachers extremely helpful and experience was awesome. Only complaint: student loansTonio wrote:Ya South Texas was the latest available for me to, and i sent it in before i even got my lsat info so id be complete as soon as i found out my LSAT score. Definitely been the least enjoyable admissions process of all my schools. I have never been satisfied after speaking with them on the phone, they still havent given me a decision after half a year (obvious exaggeration), they have far from impressed me.

Agreed. I just called them and they said they can't promise it will be before or after the 1st. Just to wait and see.Tonio wrote:Definitely been the least enjoyable admissions process of all my schools. Re: South Texas 2011
I'm not trying to start a shitstorm here, but in my opinion that is unacceptable, provided that you applied a while back. The reason that schools have a cut-off date for submitting applications is so they can get at least a decision rendered before the seat deposit is due....right? What am I missing here? I guess if they have a ton of people willing to attend they don't have to please us, but come on.roarthur wrote:Agreed. Also if they had a early decision program, then we wouldn't have as much reason to be unhappy, but they don't...

Re: South Texas 2011
App was complete 2/15. Got accepted 3/11. Also in @ Loyola NO. Truly cannot decide between the two. Which is a better school? What to do? I don't care about scholarship $ because a degree is forever and $30K can be made up in one year in terms of starting salary. Still waiting to hear from Chapman & Tulane. Applied to St. Mary's as backup, but not going there bc in @ STCL. Planning on patent law and working in Houston.
Good luck to everyone still waiting. If anyone has any opinions on Loyola NO vs. STCL, I would love to hear them!!!

Re: South Texas 2011
If you wanna work in houston? why would you go to Loyola. I got conditionaly accepted at Loyola i might go if i get fully accepted. New Orleans is great ive lived here for many years and I love it, I am not particularily fond of Houston but i know thats where the Jobs are. Plain and simple you have a better chance getting a job out of South Texas than Loyola and if you wanna work in Houston it makes no sense to go to loyola. Plus South Texas is cheaper. Also Loyola has this since of inferiority since it shares a campus with Tulane, its kinda like the stupid child its just a weird feeling. I dont know of any other schools in the country that share a campus like Loyola and Tulane. If they were the same price i would go to Loyola just because this is my home, NOLA is beautiful and i love Louisiana. But with the price difference weighed with job options it doesnt make much senseamichg wrote:App was complete 2/15. Got accepted 3/11. Also in @ Loyola NO. Truly cannot decide between the two. So the whole T3/T4 thing really shouldn't be an issue? It would be much easier for me to go to ST that's for sure! Also prob get a bit of $ from them too.

They are comparable in their respective locations, thats kidna how the lower tiers work. Its easier to get a job in NOLA coming out of Loyola because Loyola has alumni in the work force and its local. Same thing goes for South Texas and houston. But t3/t4 isnt an issue when it comes to Loyola/STCL neither are considered fantastic schools and i could not say one was better than the other. Plus its pretty absurd for STCL to be ranked with cooley and all that nonsense newayamichg wrote:So the whole T3/T4 thing really shouldn't be an issue? This. If Houston, then STCL>Loyola. If NOLA, Loyola>STCL.txadv11 wrote:All I needed to see to say STCL.amichg wrote:... Planning on patent law and working in Houston..

Also, really once you drop past T20, everything is regional anyways. For instance, I would rather go to STCL than any of the ranked Chicago schools that aren't UChicago or Northwestern, since there is less competition for Houston jobs than there would be for Chicago jobs. However, that's neither here nor there in regards to this, just pointing out that t3/t4 doesn't really make much of a difference if you're comparing different markets.Tonio wrote:They are comparable in their respective locations, thats kidna how the lower tiers work. That being said, anyone see the rankings? STCL dropped several spots for trial ad...jacketman03 wrote:Also, really once you drop past T20, everything is regional anyways. isn't it more likely that we haven't received a decision yet because its most likely a rejection? or is it likely that they have yet to get to my application since my app is still in the complete phase?

Sounds to me like everyone is saying it really depends on if you intend practice in Dallas (W) or Houston (STCL). Good luck with your decision.
