Re: Yale 2011 applicants
I got a package in the mail today from YLS telling me to apply because their "Pacific Islander, Asian, and Native American (PANA)" program would be attractive to me. I lol-ed. They didn't even offer a fee waiver or anything. Nice try Yale, but I'm not adding to your list of rejected people.

Is it true that Yale has not denied ANYONE yet? So there is a massive rejection storm brewing?
App was complete 11.4. It's kinda ridiculous to sit on an auto-rejection for 3 months for no good reason.

Ugh I'm literally stuck on this 250
have two very similar but different drafts written out.
There's a point where it becomes too much that you're putting in, particularly when there isn't an established right way to do it.
I'll give it until Thursday at the latest then I'll just have to go with what I have

I'm kind of curious about this, though...I mean, you have great numbers and a great UG, plus they bothered to solicit you. Don't you think it's at least worth a try? I guess if you're not at all interested in going there I'd understand not applying, but otherwise I feel like you should give it a chance.champsound wrote:I got a package in the mail today from YLS telling me to apply because their "Pacific Islander, Asian, and Native American (PANA)" program would be attractive to me. Re: Yale 2011 applicants
If we discount the tweet on 2/1 that claimed that there would be more admit calls later in the week — because no one has reported being admitted on LSN since then, and there hasn't been a follow-up tweet — then that's two weeks without admit calls as of today. Last year, until March, it was fairly common for the office to go 10-12 days between admit calls, but they never went as many as 14 days after they re-opened from Winter Break.
Makes me wonder if, on the one hand, they did actually do admit calls a few days ago and we just didn't know, or if, on the other hand, they were so busy rejecting people that they didn't get to it. There is one reported rejection on LSN, who updated last Friday. (EDIT: But yeah, see subsequent posts.)
Either way, it's hard to tell whether there's going to be a big round of catch-up admit calls, or it's going to be a slow month until they get to finishing everything off starting in March (and continuing through mid-April), or their "lots of offers today" on 1/22 meant that they had gone ahead and don't need to admit anyone for a while, or....

Not that we know of. But that may change soon. If the tweet is even directionally correct, the first batch should be in the mail soon... It does feel that way. I wonder if people feel that way every year, or if the drop in applicants really has put the brakes on the cycle...r6_philly wrote:It feels like the whole cycle just stalled for all the top schools.lzyovrachievr wrote:I do like your posts and analyzing. It did not feel like this last year. It had a different feel. It seemed like every school was rushing to get decisions out because they were overwhelmed with the sheer number of applications.JeNeRegretteRien wrote: It does feel that way. This year however has been progressing really slowly. And a quick glance between all my facebook groups shows massive number of cross admits (below CCN though). I have no idea what's going on, and I don't really want to speculate. I wonder if they get some sort of metric during the cycle about cross admits. It feels like everyone is applying to 10+ schools (seems that way from that poll thread) and schools may be startled a bit on how many applicants there really are.
What if
- LSAT takers are down 10-15% while number of retakers increase 10-15%
- number of applications are down 10-15% while people on average apply to 10-15% more number of schools
What if the true number of applicants for this cycle is actually down 20-25%?

I don't understand how the drop in applications would SLOW down the cycle--wouldn't schools be more inclined to admit people faster if apps are down???JeNeRegretteRien wrote:It does feel that way. Other than CLS, auto-admits are still being accepted quickly. Well even there because there was a first wave. It's all the borderlines. Schools must know/see applications per person going up and know yield will be down this year.Weirdlog wrote:

Re: Yale 2011 applicants
It actually makes perfect sense that the process would slow down or even stop right now, don't you think? The top schools just had their application deadline pass last week. No doubt they were inundated with hundreds (or in some cases, thousands) of applications. It takes time to process these files. I know it's got to be hard for those of you who submitted applications early last fall, but I think we've got to take schools seriously when they give a deadline of April 15th. Getting news sooner than that should be considered a lucky break.
Looking at ASW dates can help you get a little better sense of dates if you're really anxious though. You can surmise that most of the acceptances for any given school will be sent out no later than two weeks before the scheduled ASW weekend (i.e. Yale's decisions have to made no later than April 1st, Duke's decisions have to be made no later than March 11th, and so forth).
Beyond that, however, we can't know much so it seems like a waste of time and energy to hold our collective breath every day.

Re: Yale 2011 applicants
Not necessarily. The drop in apps may create more uncertainty about what the total applicant pool is going to look like, creating incentives to wait for more information. Option value and all that.Weirdlog wrote:I don't understand how the drop in applications would SLOW down the cycle--wouldn't schools be more inclined to admit people faster if apps are down???JeNeRegretteRien wrote:It does feel that way. It's like poker: they're not sure what's going on so they "check" and wait for more information. Or they DO know what's going on, don't like their hand, and "check" and hope for better cards.
Edit for quote fail.

Re: Yale 2011 applicants
I am very interested in this - I worked as a number cruncher/analyst - so I dug around LSAC a bit.
One piece of interesting info: LSAC forum registration is down 27% year over year (12596 to 9188). There just doesn't seem to be a whole lot of interest this year. But if I have to guess, the distribution of the lost applicants are probably skewed toward the lower end of the pool.
Another piece of info from 2009 trend report:
40% apply before 2nd week of Jan. 40% apply before 2nd week of March. 20% apply before mid-April. So the middle 50% applicants come between new year - 3/1.
It may be a coincident that many top schools twitted/blogged/gave waivers to encourage people to apply before the deadlines this past month, or the mid 50% rush was lackluster? I really wish I knew.

What if all those cross admits are different organisms with human appearance that have the ability to just make their own copies, thus they will be able to attend all the schools they got admitted to?r6_philly wrote:It's made worse for me because I am pretty much twiddling my thumbs at work due to a long wait on a contract being approved by legal.
