I know these rankings are pretty dubious and it won't influence my decision in any way, but I'll admit my heart lept just a little bit when I saw Davis' jump :) Good for them.

Ah, sure, I mean what do the rankings REALLY matter?

It is impressive though, UCD Law has had a humongous jump since when I first started looking into law schools with the USNWR 2009 book (now two iterations old). I think it was #34... then jumped to #28 last year and now #23.

Being rank 23 is really awesome but as close as it is to 'name brand' schools, UCD still doesn't command any 'name brand' respect. This isn't a slide to those who want to go there--I might attend myself--it's just kinda... a flip side.

My heart jumped when I saw it as well :P Suddenly I wasn't going to attend a 'rank 28' but a 'rank 23' what does this say about me -_-

I am leaning toward W, but the $25,000 Davis just handed me is making me kinda wonder about it.

I have a 50% tuition reduction @ W, and a scholarship that brings my first year down to in-state resident cost (and then the 2L/3L waiver thing) so I think W still wins out-right on mathematical cost, BUT I have my husband in pharmacy school here in northern California and moving him to W is a royal pain in the neck, so there are some "soft" factors on Davis's side (now in addition to their very generous grant aid offer...)

It's a tough call. I spent 4 days in Seattle and covered every inch of the city and UW and absolutely adore it. If I was single I'd go to W without a doubt. Sadly, life is rarely quite that easy. Gates Hall is so far >>>>>> King Hall... even though King Hall is new it still reminds me of a high school building. I know that's a superficial reason to put in the corner of a law school but... it all is important IMO in a decision like this.

The new King Hall is slightly less ugly than the old King Hall. It's still not the most attractive building, but for the love of all things, do yourself a favor and don't pick your law school on this basis.

This is going to either make it hurt a helluva lot more if i get rejected or make it a million times sweeter if i get accepted.

It's just part of the pros/cons package is all.

This is probably about the same as Fordham/GW/BU/etc at sticker considering CoL in Davis is dirt cheap.

True, but I'm not considering those at sticker.

I was just curious, because while I'd love to be back in CA, I don't think I'd be willing to attend Davis at sticker :|

but Minnesota or UIUC wont give you a good shot for CA jobs. It's all about where do you want to practice.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
