I actually like that schools send out acceptances first. That way, by the time you get waitlisted or rejected you have some cushion to fall back on.

I think sending them out based on completion date is fair - if someone needs to hear back early they can just send their app in early.artichoke wrote:I actually like that schools send out acceptances first. That way, by the time you get waitlisted or rejected you have some cushion to fall back on.

I guess I'll be having another very unproductive day at work...considering I'm already on TLS at 10 am.But seriously don't worry. If you are waiting to hear back all hope is not lost. Based on LSN only about 25% of people accepted ED last year received decisions on the first day that decisions went out. An additional 40%-ish received decisions within the two days after that. So no worries!

Yeah and I feel that that way there's always a bit of ambiguity. Like, if you don't get accepted by X time it's probably a WL/rejection, but you have time to mentally prepare yourself for it...artichoke wrote:I actually like that schools send out acceptances first. Re: Columbia 2011!
I wouldn't trip. It seems like everyone who was accepted yesterday went complete in November. Someone with my exact numbers was accepted, and I went complete like the second week in September. They're working backwards or something. Just sit tight; I'm sure you'll hear good news today or tomorrow.shanemahsa wrote: Yeahhhh.... I was complete in October.

Re: Columbia 2011!
They're not working backwards or Id have already been accepted! D: In all seriousness though it looks like there isn't a pattern looking at all the acceptances of the last few cycles on LSN. If anything it seems like these is a slight tendency for those who applied early heard back earlier. Not to make anyone psnic, it seems almost entirely random. Seems to me that auto-admits would be admitted first, logically.vertex wrote:I wouldn't trip. It seems like everyone who was accepted yesterday went complete in November. Earliest last year was mid-December (very very small number), with the vast majority of decisions starting in late January.cruelestgame wrote:anyone know when rd applicants begin to hear back?

Really? Mid-December? Where did you find this? I've only got the late January wave... That's great though if there in the possiblity (however small) that some of us might hear back sooner...

Yep, search LSN for 2009 RD acceptances. There are a handful of people in the 2nd and 3rd weeks of December.jd2014! wrote:bdubs wrote:Earliest last year was mid-December (very very small number), with the vast majority of decisions starting in late January.cruelestgame wrote:anyone know when rd applicants begin to hear back?

Is it possible these are ED acceptances that people just failed to disclose? Just asking the question.bdubs wrote:Yep, search LSN for 2009 RD acceptances. The first "W" on LSN is from 1/22 so that may be the first RD we know for sure.birdlaw117 wrote: Is it possible these are ED acceptances that people just failed to disclose? Just asking the question.

Well most of those applicants didn't mark Columbia as attending, nor did it appear that they had withdrawn all of their other apps.r6_philly wrote:The first "W" on LSN is from 1/22 so that may be the first RD we know for sure.birdlaw117 wrote: Is it possible these are ED acceptances that people just failed to disclose? That being said, if someone is lazy enough to fail to put ED in, they will probably not update their attending/withdrawal status either.

Re: Columbia 2011!
my two cents - I attended Columbia info session last Wednesday. The AdCom person said they were just going through ED and they don't start reading RD until January.birdlaw117 wrote:Pretty much my thoughts. So the answer is.... Re: Columbia 2011!
I think your right and that guy was RD. Some schools (UVA, others?) seem to be notifying URMs with good numbers earlier than the first wave general apps.r6_philly wrote:ok this guy from 12/11 def. not ED because he was on WL for Yale and got in.bdubs wrote:Well most of those applicants didn't mark Columbia as attending, nor did it appear that they had withdrawn all of their other apps.r6_philly wrote:The first "W" on LSN is from 1/22 so that may be the first RD we know for sure.birdlaw117 wrote: Is it possible these are ED acceptances that people just failed to disclose?
