So am I being held rather than waitlisted? I'm not sure. Take a gander at this gem that came to my email inbox today:

Thank you for applying to the Juris Doctor program at Georgetown University Law Center. The record you present is a strong one, and the Committee on Admissions has chosen to postpone your final decision.

Each year, a large number of candidates submit applications to Georgetown Law early in the process. The high quality of this group makes the Committee's decisions extremely difficult. Please be aware that only a small number of early applicants have had their applications held, and a number of those applicants in past years have subsequently been admitted.

Once we have a better sense of the entire applicant pool, the Committee on Admissions will review your application again in January. No additional information is necessary, and The Law School Data Assembly Service (LSDAS) will continue to send us updates, which we will add to your file. A final decision will be mailed no later than Friday, February 26, 2010.

That's a hold. A waitlist e-mail would explicitly use the word "waitlist". Think of it as the same as a deferment from early decision: They're still considering your application, but they're waiting to look at it again until they have more applicants (that is, until after their application deadline).

I've been under review as a near auto deny for weeks. They've updated me three times, the last one 1/11, possibly because I asked to be considered for both FT and PT. They're either rejections or just plain tough decisions.
And before that were you 1/7?
I'm UR 1/7, it's the first UR date I've had as I went complete on 12/15. I haven't read thru this thread recently, but as far as I remember the UR dates aren't correlated with specific WL/Reject/Accept batches like the DR dates are (someone correct me if I'm wrong). My numbers give me a solid chance, so I don't think the UR 1/7 batch is auto reject.

EDIT: Just went back through the thread. The numbers of people that went UR 1/7 seem to cover a wide range, from potential YP numbers to ppl who say they have auto reject numbers.

I went UR on 1/7 and I certainly expect a rejection. Stats are 3.66/168

I was WL'd with a 3.67 and a 167, so I really doubt you'd be rejected.

I would be thrilled with a WL, no matter how small the chances of getting in actually are. I am just not expecting much from the T14 overall.

Most of the schools I've dealt with seem to prefer email. Maybe do both. Maybe they'd appreciate a hand written note seeing as how we all seem to gush over those tiny details from an adcomm.
I'm going to finish up my LOCI tonight and call them tomorrow morning to see if they have a preference. I'll try to remember to post their answer.

they just sent me an email confirming they received it, thanking me and saying they'd put it in my file... so I guess email is totally cool with them

Quick question... i got the WL email yesterday and had applied to both PT and FT. Does this mean that I am waitlisted for both programs??

What was the application complete date for all of these dates? I'm wondering how long it'll take them to get to my application...

I am a December retaker and am UR as of 1/7...I had a complete notice on 12/15 but I'd imagine my actual complete date wasn't until 1/4 or so with the new score.

Mine still says UR 1/7, no change in the date since then.

Another thought....anyone know if Georgetown is sending correspondence to permanent or current addresses? Just realized that my permanent address is listed on my status checker.

I'm UR 12/3, 12/10, 1/7, 1/21. This has to be a reject batch (sorry for those with me) because I should have been rejected a LONG time ago 162/3.74.

EDIT: Of course assuming that the apps in the same UR batch receive the same decision.

I'm not quite sure how dates of under review can be in 'batches.' I would assume that 'under review' means just that, and when they change the date it is probably just an update in the computer system, probably not that you are actually 'under review' again. That being said, I don't think I am getting in, but it is not because of the date which I went 'under review.'
