Same on all fronts except I don't have a car, but depending on where I wind up going to school I might need to buy one.
I don't know if I asked you this before, but should I sell my car if I go to nyc?
Recently bought a car...Also wondering about the necessity. Also, consider that if I get and go to NYU, my SO may get and go to Columbia. Trains/rails run well enough between the two?

You can take the 1 train straight from Columbia to the West Village. Easy af
Perfect. I figured it would be, just coming from a small town South, it's hard to imagine effective mass-transit and/or life without my vehicle.

I found it to be an active and expensive annoyance. Parking is only expensive in Manhattan and in downtown Brooklyn. If you're going to NYU or Columbia you're probably never going to drive to campus (because that would be dumb) so your car would just sit parked in your neighborhood, costing you money.
Also, very good point. I have mostly seen this as a response, but the extra comment really pounds it in.

I came from the South as well and was reluctant to give up my car for a bit, but I'm so glad I did. There are 3 or 4 times a year when I'm like "Damn, it would be nice if I had a car right this second" but it's fairly infrequent.
Mass transit here is pretty great. The buses can be shitty because they have to deal with traffic/road conditions/other tomfoolery, so I'd plan to live near trains but it's otherwise great.
Another advantage is that you never need a DD because everyone just hops on the train or gets an Uber at the end of the night :D
TRUUUUUTH. Legit hope I get into NYU now (with some $). Not that I didn't legitimately hope before...But now I really hope! haha. I bet the mountains were tough to navigate without a vehicle. At least a PITA for sure.

Not the worst thing I would ever [have ever] deal[t] with. Also, when I found you on FB I wasn't surprised at all. You fit my mental picture pretty well. in case you were wondering.

+1 to wanting a law dog.

+1 to probably working pretty late into next summer.
Agree with slippin' on these. I've been working 70 hour weeks on an implementation that all of you will (hopefully) never hear about, hence the less shitposting.
