Adcoms run and attend every day of ASW at HLS (at least they did last year.) I think Thursday/Friday would be strange days for calls, unless they did it during the sessions. I think it's tomorrow (WHICH IT WON'T BE POZZO DON'T WORRY) or next week.KaijuOh8 wrote:I think there will be a JS2 wave this Friday. I'm calling Friday because I'm thinking (1) Harvard would be extremely pressed to make all remaining calls next week, with all the JS1s held this week (assuming it still has +250 offers to make); and (2) the adcoms, including Dean Soban, wouldn't need to be present at events on that day. The latter rationale is based on the assumption that adcoms are not required to appear after the first day of an ASW - at least that's how Berkeley's ASW went, as far as my observations and memories are concerned.

is this analysis based solely on 2 js1s reported here yesterday?CHyde wrote:Ok, based on a very limited data set (read a few PMs), it looks like HLS is still trying to boost their LSAT median through acceptance of splitters (read LSAT above 174, below 25th GPA).
I'm going to speculate that this may be related to their drop in ranking/dissatisfaction with current JS1 pool. Maybe they're running some statistical models as we speak.
This may explain why it has taken them so long to release this next wave of JS2s. Good news for splitters, bad news for below 173 lsat January and beyond applicants.
But who knows, I'm just BSing here.

Re: Harvard Law c/o 2020 Applicants (2016-2017)
is # matriculating at HYS for each LSAT score published? distribution of splitters among the lsat scores? or how many 172+ go to t14 other than t6?Pozzo wrote:This has been my feeling too. Of course, if lower ranked schools are changing up how they give out money to maintain their medians, then HYS might have to react to a lower than average yield. Not sure that we've seen this, though. Of course, I'm not sure how we, the unqualified internet pontificators, would ever get data to assess this kind of change. Still, it's fun to speculate.texteach wrote:Am I the only one that thinks HYS are not going to be phased all that much by the current applicants' LSAT scores? There are more than enough to maintain all 3 schools' high medians and 75 percentiles. Assuming that many of those applicants will also have respectable GPAs (above each school's medians), I just don't see this cycle being all that numerically different from the past. Timing has been atypical, but I don't think we'll see that much of a shift in the class profiles.Rigo wrote:In terms of who is actually applying.HonestlyThough wrote:Can you explain more? I agree with your hypothesis, especially given the drop in high 172+ scorers this year. It's messing with the admissions committee at HYS for sure.
http://blog.spiveyconsulting.com/2016-2 ... -02-03-17/
it appears that HYS and T6 can maintain their medians/75s, but there is no data about distribution of splitters with this year's lsat scores. if they all maintain LSAT 50s/75s then they may be getting hurt on GPA 50s/70s. Last year H lsat median dropped even though they had 200+ more applicants with 172+ last year.

Re: Harvard Law c/o 2020 Applicants (2016-2017)
there are 840 applicants this year with 173 or above (i.e. 173+) score.
seems fair to assume that 25% of these are strong splitters with gpa < 3.5/3.6
that leaves with 630 applicants with 173+ that are interesting to HYSCCN
173+ scorers at HYS, at least 450 may be more
173+ at col, ~150
173+ at chi, ~30-40
173+ at N, ~30-40
this alone adds to 660-680.
look like 172/173 is the magic score for this cycle and medians may drop.

I did some very rough estimates playing based on Spivey's number's from 2/24 vs last year + published medians + score frequency of "accepted (Attending)" folks posted on LSN last year. It looks even more severe for HLS's 175 75th percentile.appind wrote:there are 840 applicants this year with 173 or above (i.e. 173+) score.

There were 526 applicants (not matriculants) with 175+ last year. My conservative-ish estimate is that 300+ of those matriculated at just the t6 (200+ at HYS, 140+ at H alone), and 340+ total matriculants in the t14. That would mean ~66-80% of those folks actually matriculated in the t14.
This year there were only 379 applicants with 175+. If we guess the same 20-33% are out, that leaves 250-300 total actual candidates at 175+.
So, last year's matriculants:
175+ at YS: 60+
175+ at H: 140+
175+ at CCN: 90+
That's 290+ already before looking at any of the Darrows or the rest of the top tier, but this year there may be as few as 250 decent candidates. YS are gonna probably take the same 60+, leaving potentially as few as ~190. If HLS still needs 140 to maintain their 75th, they are gonna need to be real creative.

It's still pretty rough at 174. Last year:curry1 wrote:I think H will drop to a 174 75th
174+ YS: 100+
174+ H: 175+
174+ Col: 100+
174+ Chi + N: 50+
That 425+ at the t6 alone. This year applicants with 174+ are down 791 -> 584. If we throw out the same 20%, that's only ~465. Again, let's say YS keep their 100+, so that's ~365 candidates. If Columbia and Harvard both want to meet that 174 75 percentile, that means between them those two schools will need to take ~275, or 75% of all the available candidates, and Harvard alone will need half of them.
Anecdotally, Columbia seems to be pushing hard on those numbers (I got accepted with a late application, <25-but-close GPA and a 174 almost immediately), though LSN shows 173s are getting in in hoards.

The discussion about HLS having dim prospects of keeping its median or 75th percentile LSAT score makes me really worried, as it implies - at least to me - the school might try to compensate by bringing up its 25th percentile LSAT (170), resulting in people with LSAT score of 170 (e.g. me) losing out. Gah!
