$1,000 for first deposit? Omg that's a lot.
Michigan's is $300, love them.
isn't there a school with $3000 worth of deposit due by June 1st? I want to say it's GW.
I would hit them with the randy jackson "It's gonna be a no from me dawg"
GW's is 3K all together. 1K first payment.
Fuck the fuck no.

Yeah, the flip side is, you can waive both seat deposits if you commit though. I imagine that's a possibility at other schools too though.
"Commit" means withdrawing from all schools (accepted, waitlisted, and pending) though.

Just withdrew and threw some money back in the pile! Good luck to y'all! (edit: declined my offer, freed up a spot!)
It's also kind of scary to withdraw because I keep feeling like what if the school I committed to just decides that it was all a mistake

Yeah I must have signed what you did, since it wasn't nearly as specific as this one.

there's a bunch of admitted students days/ programs this week so they're probably not even reviewing apps (hence the lack of movement on the checker) because they're too busy trying to desperately woo the people they've already accepted so they can keep their yield numbers consistent in this weird ass year

Someone put a stink bomb in the NYU LS ventilation system to scare away all the admitted students.

Wait, what did you sign? Aka how do I waive deposits but not commit to withdraw from everywhere else?

it came with my scholarship - an "intent to enroll" form, like it's my first choice but i made sure to let the admissions office now it was "as of right now"

The non-binding "intent to enroll" form means that by May 1, you promise to either (a) put down your $1,000 deposit (non-binding but also non-refundable) or (b) sign the binding waived-deposit form promising to withdraw from all accepted/pending/waitlisted schools in exchange for not putting down / risking the $1,000 deposit. If you don't do (a) or (b) by May 1, you lose the scholarship offer and the acceptance offer.
I hope you hear back from NYU by the end of April!

Oh wow, I didn't read any stipulations like that at all in the letter itself or the accompanying e-mail. Good to know! Thanks.

Ugh, scummy admissions practices. LSAC requires law schools not to make admittees withdraw from pending schools or where they've been waitlisted in order to "commit" to a school. At least GULC seems to allow you to put down money (a whole grand?!) instead of doing the withdraw thing, but it still seems really scummy, especially if that wasn't clear to the poster above.

i was under a "special" scholarship program so i don't think it does - it doesn't make sense they would never cover that in their communications with me or in the form i signed, so i'm taking it with a grain of salt, but do plan to know what's up before may 1st anyway.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
