No one would ever skip class. Attendance in lass is easily the most important part in law school followed by how well you answer cold call questions and how many pages of notes you take.LET'S GET IT wrote:Are you going by a class you sat in on? testing my luck...anyone have thoughts on gallery apartments 4132 Washington or the Ellsworth? I'm late to the party so scrambling for a place to live now. Open to recommendations as well.

No, I mean for this incoming year.LET'S GET IT wrote:Are you going by a class you sat in on? Because people skip class.Joscellin wrote:From what I saw, sections are about 33-35.
We can see our course sections online, and while I'm sure they're not finalized, they're looking like 33-35. There's definitely a section F, so the numbers jive with what we've been told.

Any recommendations for internet service providers in St. Louis?

Care to elaborate? There was a discussion earlier in the thread that seemed to say that it's not ideal for the social scene, but it can work well enough.justkeepswimming794 wrote:Don't live downtown.az279 wrote:testing my luck...anyone have thoughts on gallery apartments 4132 Washington or the Ellsworth? Edit: Apparently that discussion was in the "Ask a student" thread, not this one. Same question applies, though.

Honestly, theres nothing down there. I know that seems weird because its supposed to be the central hub of the city- Its not. St. Louis is weird. Lots of little neighborhoods and downtown is not really one of the more interesting ones. Also- It's far away. Taking public transit to school will push your wake up alarm around an hour earlier, if you plan on taking the metro. If you have a car, its about 15 minutes away, but then you have to deal with parking.Joscellin wrote:Care to elaborate? If you want a city-esque feel, live in clayton or CWE. CWE seems to be TCR. I live near the loop tho, and personally, love being able to easily go home during lunch or a free hour if I forgot something, or for a nap, etc
One of my very close friends lives downtown (or did this past year) and I feel like if they knew a year ago what they know now, they would not be living there. Just imo tho. ymmv. If you'd like, you can pm me if you have more specific questions about that.
ETA: The friend who lives downtown lives at or very near those addresses posted.

Yeah agreed with the above. And downtown is eerily empty despite being so built up. Like after 5pm it's a ghost town.

Charter. It's the cheapest/fastest and everyone pretty much uses them in St. Louis.ek5dn wrote:Any recommendations for internet service providers in St. Louis?

Re: WUSTL c/o 2018 Applicants
For housing I recommend U City (south of Olive), Clayton, or the Moorlands/Demun area. I've lived in both U City and the Moorlands and the area is close to school, safe, and beautiful. Plus there are metro stations close enough and bus routes if you have no car. A lot of the places might be more expensive, but they are huge apartments for the same price of smaller cwe apartments. And if you look hard enough you can usually find pretty good deals. I ended up getting a 2 bedroom apartment (probably 900-1000sq ft) for $750/mo in the Moorlands with a bus taking me straight to the main campus at the end of the street. Plus it's within walking distance to a pizza place, dry cleaners, starbucks, a little park, etc. CWE seems to be the most popular option for law students, but I have found that living to the west of forest park is more convenient for getting to school.
That being said, I wouldn't recommend living downtown. It's too far, there's no real benefit, and public transportation just isn't great enough for it to make sense.

For orientation week, how long do those days typically last? They haven't provided a schedule/itinerary yet, as far as I know.

I use Charter as well and no complaints other than the occasional call trying to get me to sign up for cable.MoonSugar wrote:Charter. It's the cheapest/fastest and everyone pretty much uses them in St. Louis.ek5dn wrote:Any recommendations for internet service providers in St. Louis?
eta
I have heard of law students living downtown but I agree with the others. I can't think of a single advantage to living downtown, the cwe and the loop have at least as much if not more to do and are a lot closer to school.MoonSugar wrote:That being said, I wouldn't recommend living downtown. Do you think I would be safe getting a copy of Fundamentals of Property Law that's a bit older than the one listed on the book list?

Yeah I'd think so. If there are any cases missing you can just look those up on westlaw.laujam204 wrote:Do you think I would be safe getting a copy of Fundamentals of Property Law that's a bit older than the one listed on the book list?

Looking to get a new laptop to be used specifically for law school - many laptops now no longer come with a cd/dvd drive; would this be a problem at Wash U? Any reason to require that drive for classes/exams?

Do you though?
(I bet those CDs are old enough to have minimal if any protection against copying to a flash drive or something, which could be done by the legit owner. I'm no computer nerd though, maybe I'm wrong).

Should I go to this City Connect thing tomorrow? I'd rather not but a bunch of 0Ls are going and I don't want to miss anything useful/important.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
