Eh. You never know when something could make enough of a difference to bump you up or down a cutoff. I was told to not worry about LP and LRM and so I put forth the very minimum effort. I didn't do well and I'm sure I'm going to be asked about it in every interview. Especially considering those are the only classes that have any applicability to what you will be doing as a young associate. I wouldn't spend time on those classes at the expense of doctrinals, put I would try to do well in there if you can.

Haha. I am a corporate gunner, so yeah that's fair. But I did the fed judge thing this summer and those are the only two classes that I used. Maybe civ pro a little.chuckbass wrote:Looks like you'll just have to be a corporate gunner thenLET'S GET IT wrote:Eh. oh, I completely agree. he made it abundantly clear that he disliked me and graded me drastically worse than anyone else in the class. If I do go back this year, my first priority is to get that grade changed or be allowed to retake it

Is renting vs. buying the books recommended? Is there any reason to buy over renting books?

No, you'll just sell them back anyways. I just rented used books from the bookstore (could do it cheaper online but that was more convenient) and you can write/highlight in the books.oshberg28 wrote:Is renting vs. buying the books recommended? Is there any reason to buy over renting books?

Rent unless you are truly a super-highlighter person, which you shouldn't be anyway. You will not be wanting to ever see these books again. I rented new/pretty close to new books and liked it - very low hassle and big upfront savings. I preferred renting online for max savings. I was allowed to highlight up to 1/3 of the text which is way more than I ever would or is necessary. And free return shipping is pretty common.oshberg28 wrote:Is renting vs. buying the books recommended? Is there any reason to buy over renting books?
However, if you have the upfront money and are willing to put some time in, there are some instances where buying online and reselling can be even cheaper than renting. Not my expertise to advise on fully, but generally if you don't wreck your books or highlight them much you can resell new or used ones for solid coin in person (to other 1Ls taking that class in the spring or to the class behind you) or online back to the book companies. This is kinda speculative and way more work than taking the average, solid savings from renting online though, so I didn't do it much.

Re: WUSTL c/o 2018 Applicants
It appears that Section F has fewer classes (4) than everyone else (5) fall semester and then the opposite spring semester. We have Crim spring semester as opposed to fall.
Has Wash U done this in the past? Seems like an unfair advantage for Section F (higher first semester GPA, easier transition, etc.), but I'm not complaining. Any advantages/disadvantages I'm missing?
Edit: Obviously the class is curved against other people with the same schedule, so there's no GPA difference. Ignore me.

currently we (F) have contracts, civ pro, and property fall semester.
E has the same three subjects, A & B have contracts, crim law, and property, and C & D have contracts, crim law, and torts...
and LP/LRW schedules haven't been assigned yet.

Re: WUSTL c/o 2018 Applicants
The higher first semester gpa thing is a function of the professors. The median student in F will actually probably have a lower gpa than the median other section student. At least for last year DeGeest had a bunch of students right at the top which hurts the rest of the curve.peachesthedoge wrote:how do you figure F has fewer fall classes?RareExports wrote:It appears that Section F has fewer classes (4) than everyone else (5) fall semester and then the opposite spring semester.
