Does Villanova have LRAP? I just called and they were speaking to me like I was making this kinda stuff up, but I feel like the person I was speaking to may not have understood what I was asking about... Anybody know?

Re: Villanova 2010
I was offered a 10 k/year merit scholarship, renewable if I can maintain a 3.25. I received it on March 1st, which was a little more than a month after I found out I was accepted. I also have an outstanding e-mail to the financial aid office in the hopes that they will give me a little more, but after reading some of these posts I am not sure how likely that is.sbs42 wrote:If you don't mind my asking, what kind of scholarship did you get and when did you receive it? I've been waiting on that info forever and I finally just caved and e-mailed them.jkc939 wrote:Just in case people are interested, my visit to Villanova was great. Everyone was cool, the building was awesome and the area is nice. I got the sense that the students are pretty cohesive and the professors are helpful. I also really like the idea of off-campus housing where you still can be around a lot of other law school students, and having the bars real close. I'm hoping to negotiate a little bigger scholarship but I am definitely leaning towards attending in the fall.

FWIW, which of these schools between 45. and 61. is Villanova appreciably worse than?
45t. Tulane, WCL, Colorado, Utah
49t. SMU, Dozo
51. Florida
52t. FSU, Cincy, UConn
55t. ASU, Case Western, Pepperdine, Kentucky
59t. Houston, Tennessee
61t. BLS, Lewis & Clark, Villanova, USD
I could see them moving up into the mid- or even low-50s, at least in theory. They had great NLJ250 placement in '09 for a school of their rank. Will that help their rep score?

In terms of NLJ250 job placement for '09:dvd wrote:Job placement and starting salaries in their respective regions, for one.lawbreaker wrote:How so?dvd wrote: Certainly SMU and Cardozo.
I met with the assistant dean of admissions at nova last week and had this conversation with him. He said money spent per student is incorporated in the rankings so that might move Nova up. However, that really just shows how arbitrary the ratings are to begin with, at least to some degree.
#49 SMU (23%) > #49 Cardozo (20.1%) > #55 Houston (18.2) > #61 Villanova (16.7) > #45 WCL (15.1) > the rest of the schools not listed ranking 45-61.
Don't have stats on starting salaries handy, but I'd like to believe that there's a relationship between biglaw placement rates and starting salaries. No idea how these schools relate in terms of expenditures per student. But with this limited information, the idea that Nova could move up into the mid-50s doesn't seem crazy. But yes, who the hell knows.

Re: Villanova 2010
Nope, their ranking doesn't really matter. All of this is academic, good for conversation. Villanova's a fine school, and you'd be crazy to turn them down just because of their rank, if you want to work in the Mid-Atlantic. I'm seriously considering Nova.dvd wrote:Point taken, but really, do rankings matter all that much for Nova, seeing as it and the other schools discussed here are all "regional." Really you just have to pick the best school you get into, in the region you want to work, that gives you the most money.FunkyJD wrote:In terms of NLJ250 job placement for '09:

Pitt. Emory. UNC. Other schools not listed, if accepted.dvd wrote:What other schools are people looking at?
Maybe I'll decide based on the catchy-ness of a given city's newsradio jingle. Jingle for KYW in Philly is catchy.

Ok, so i guess the deadline extension won't work. too much work (at least for villanova).
making an unofficial visit tomorrow (driving around the area, visiting the city, walking around the building, etc).
I'm looking between Pitt and Nova. Only way Pitt would win me over is the need-based grants. The gradplus loans are ridiculous.

FWIW, Yale is ranked 18th in the NLJ250 Placement list. I guess by the criteria you guys are using, we should be prepared to see an epic drop for Yale- possibly out of the T14!!!
(I am only be sarcastic and rude because I think that judging the value of a law school solely upon its BIGLAW!!!! placement is gross. Also, Villanova's admissions office sucks ass.)

Then again, you'd be an idiot to not see Yale as a special case, and in no way comparable to the schools we've discussed.Burger in a can wrote:FWIW, Yale is ranked 18th in the NLJ250 Placement list.
