Perfect. You can def. do ticket clinic with T4; just be ready to be massive rainmaker. I wouldn't put door-to-door marketing past one either. Any who, on to more important things: choices?GATORTIM wrote:yeah, he PM'd me and said he was looking to corner the S. I wouldn't worry about it, you'll still be able to dent the traffic ticket market... you'll just starve some nights doing it.bomedtheLSAT101 wrote:rad law wrote:Basically, going to Stetson hoping for Miami is bad news bears.bomedtheLSAT101 wrote:what do you guys think of Stetson's reputation in Miami, fl?

just wondering... what is stopping stetson and other tier 3 schools from raising their grading curves to 3.0+ like other tier 2/1 schools?

Re: Stetson 2010
Well, according to what I have seen at tier1/2 law school websites many have grading curves that are 3.0+ or higher. However, for tier 3 schools, the curve is usually from 2.0-2.9. This basically means that the mean of the grades for 1st year classes have to be within that range. And my question was what is stopping Stetson from raising their grading curve as well in to the 3.0 range? Schools set their curves higher so that their students would seem more selective for internships or jobs, many which require at least a 3.0 gpa.

Hi all! I just finished my 1L at Stetson. TLS was a great resource for me and I'd like to return the favor. I'd be happy to answer specific questions!

The question above about the grading curve. Is it really harder than, say, FSU's?

Re: Stetson 2010
No clue about FSU...
First semester was: 75th % = 3.25, 25th % = 2.75. After second semester, the average grade goes up because some of the lowest grades leave school. Average after 1L was 3.05. 1L profs are supposed to make their average between a 2.9 and a 3.1. Upper level courses are more generous with their average.
Most profs are tight with A's. My conlaw prof gave one 4.0 and five 3.75s out of 68 students. Btw, percentile is used much more than grades...e.g. employers list job ads with preferred percentile, not gpa. Worry about your ranking and not gpa.

Re: Stetson 2010
A lot of 1Ls found work this summer. I can't say with any accuracy how good the average job prospect is. I don't really know many grads...only 1Ls. I can tell you that Stetson does get job opportunities, but I'd venture to guess that you'd need top 40th percentile to start getting into the high paid jobs. We get regular career center emails and it seems that there are some great jobs if you have the credentials. A lot of jobs seem to come from alumni connections and Tampa area firms that are familiar with Stetson. There is some placement in the rest of the state and region, but most grads just seem to stick around in Tampa. Stetson dominates the local market. I'd guess that the students on some of our successful moot court teams can get a job about anywhere in the US. Law review, moot court, grades, etc. make you more competitive and your job prospects are proportional to your credentials.

hey Carrowd3, thanks for taking q's
Do you anticipate participating in moot court or making LR? What percentage of your time "studying" was spent on campus vs. your apt/house?

Re: Stetson 2010
My GPA sucked first semester. Kicked ass second semester. All depends on the third semester, but probably won't make law review. I may try out for moot court. I had a good oral argument in R&W.GATORTIM wrote:hey Carrowd3, thanks for taking q's

I only studied in my house. I live less than a mile from campus and always came back after class.
No where. Studying for the patent bar exam.rad law wrote:Where are you working this summer?carrowd3 wrote:Hi all! I just finished my 1L at Stetson. TLS was a great resource for me and I'd like to return the favor. I'd be happy to answer specific questions!

Re: Stetson 2010
Your scholarship carries through to your next two years provided you stay in the top 50th percentile (it was top 40th but was changed this year). If you drop below, you will be on probation for 1 semester to allow you the opportunity to get above the 50th. At least this is the rule for our class.GATORTIM wrote:carrowd3,
