Here are the current Rothman scholar profiles, in case anyone's interested. Not sure if worth an essay without HYS numbers...

Idk my scholly yet since I just got accepted the other day and am considered a traditional splitter based on USC's stats. Trying to decide if that would suggest I wouldn't get chosen because of my GPA...chargers21 wrote:Blast, I got it. I actually might submit an app now, though, just because I already got accepted and got a really great scholarship, so I can't really mess things up too much by writing a half-hearted essay and hoping I get luckyChristinabruin wrote:Okay I just checked all of my USC emails and realized I DID get the Rothman email.. way back in October lol so I'm guessing it is a blastcrookedsmile wrote:I'm thinking email blast too. 37% people of color in last year's entering class. USC is not exactly a paragon of diversity.brinicolec wrote:I hate seeing stuff like that. Like sheesh. I guess I haven't looked into it much because in my mind, there's just not a lot of diversity within the legal field -- which is disappointing in and of itself.

Yeah I got the Rothman email and was trying to decide if it's worth writing up the essay...I'm not nearly interesting enough if those are the prior winners, hmm...

USC is actually one of the most diverse in the top schools. Also being in LA people are a lot friendlier because California is a very liberal and minority friendly place. The different races really mix and interact. There isn't much division like in some states where they have black sides and white sides.brinicolec wrote:Oh yikes. except when we are driving.... when we are driving we become raging maniacs trying to fight for survival on the 405, the 5, and the 101... so if you're not the most aggressive driver, you should probably start practicing.

Yeah that traffic is brutal. I live in Rialto, I went to USC last Wednesday. It took me an hour and ten minutes to get there. Heading back home, I left at 4:40 and did not get back until 7:06 lol.Litt1tUp wrote:+1Mr_Chukes wrote:USC is actually one of the most diverse in the top schools. This is pretty much liberal feel good nonsense. LA is the most segregated city in the country for Hispanics: http://laist.com/2015/05/13/racial_dot_map_socal.php.Mr_Chukes wrote:USC is actually one of the most diverse in the top schools. Hint: In other areas of the country, especially on college campuses with large numbers of young people, people of different races actually interact and talk with each other as well. People are frequently friends with their minority neighbors even though they dislike the class they come from for various reasons. Because at the end of the day, if a minority demonstrates the appropriate class markers (shopping at Whole Foods and REI, supporting Obama while not considering the drone program or nonjudicial internment, going to law school, posting about "diversity") then the majority will accept them into their group, welcome them into their corporate/government positions where they too can enjoy nice lives while ignoring the massive systemic problems that produce structural inequality. It's essentially an intrasociety brain drain to make sure there isn't a (long overdue) massive social uprising.
USC is not a particularly friendly campus for minorities unless they're rich.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
