The whole thing is a joke.

And since I'm the one cycling through 10 status checkers a day (including ED NW) I feel like the butt of it.

I try to remind myself that the name of your school doesn't define who you are or could be, but it's gets harder every day.

Relying 90% on two numbers is kind of pathetic in itself; while I think you're right to call into question not differentiating a 177 from a 169, I think his general logic probably stands.
I found his/her speculation very interesting and "makes sense"...
but it just made the admission process appear to be "nothing but" a number game for the school's 509 report

agree
it never hurts to get into a bigger name
but the name doesn't define us

I'm not trying to say that 177=169 across the board. If the ED program is being used to begin building a class to meet certain goals for GPA/LSAT, a splitter is not of much value at this point in the cycle. That's all.

I think the problem with the whole process is that in a way, the name does define us. In undergrad, you can go to a much larger number of schools that will give you adequate job outcomes. Law school has a much smaller window, and the name matters a whole lot more.

I'm sincerely curious about the # of ED they accept every circle
so that I could better understand how much effect of ED admission on building a class

I hear you all, but I still don't get why the status couldn't just say: "Law school wide holiday party this afternoon. The office will be closed from 1pm on. No round of ED decisions today."?

Honestly this. I'm not waiting for Kanye to drop his new album, so I don't understand why they are building hype like this.

It's law school admissions. Have some transparency for crying out loud.

It isn't uncommon. If they didn't like something about you, they'd have just rejected you outright.

I think I shared this before but Ill share it once more. A really good friend of mine applied ED at NU and was held, but sometime after the hold in December and the start of Spring Semester at my UG (Jan 9 or 10) he was accepted and then eventually offered 120k to attend.

Pretty sick deal right?
