You would have to have a pretty compelling reason for them to consider you in state. Or if you're a vet and left <3 years ago they have to give you in state tuition.
From Texas Law's website: "Scholarships are awarded on the basis of scholastic merit and/or financial need. Some awards include a competitive Non-Resident Tuition Exemption (NRTE) that entitles the recipient to pay tuition at Texas resident rates. The majority of students who receive these scholarships are notified in writing within two weeks of receiving their admission offer letter. First-year students are automatically considered for scholarships and a separate application is not required."
I'm just wondering how common it is for OOS admits to receive the NRTE. I'd absolutely love to attend and practice law in the area, but OOS tuition is unmanageable.

I was admitted well over 2 weeks ago, and did not receive that. They also told me scholarship info in January, which did not happen. Or I just didn't receive any!

Yeah, I mean that's really just a regular scholarship by a different name. I'd say you're about as competitve for that as you are for a 15k/year scholly at UT in any other sense. But that's based on nothing more than common sense, and as such may be way off.

My impression is this was handed out fairly regularly last cycle. It's not super rare at all.

It's pretty common, most people (that I know of) with exemption negotiated scholarships and it was part of their new scholarship package

If any of you who have been admitted are interested in getting a parking pass for the SJG garage that's right next to the law school building, be warned that passes can be hard to get if you wait until the Fall semester has begun.
There's a way to "game the system", although it requires a little extra money. Summer parking passes are easy to get, and once you have one, you're "first in line" to purchase a Fall or a Fall + Spring garage permit when they become available. I bought a Summer permit before I even moved to Austin, just to make sure I'd be able to get one for the Fall. Summer permits for non-dorm residents ('S' Permits) go on sale May 11th this year.

So, um, yeah, I'm thinking that no one who has been admitted has gotten scholly info yet. Is that right? Shouldn't that be coming soon? I totally realize I could just have some serious laziness/reading comprehension issues.

In my acceptance call (very recently) it was "within the next couple of weeks"

From the facebook group just now:
"I know you all are anxious to hear back about financial aid. We are sending out our first batch of financial aid letters today.
Don't forget if you want to be considered for need-based aid to submit your FAFSA. The FAFSA priority deadline is March 1."

Got an email from UT Law just now, thinking that it was about financial aid.
"Dean Ward Farnsworth invites you to The University of Texas School of Law Houston Admitted Students Reception"

Not yet, sorry for the false alarm. I think all non-admission, non-financial aid emails should be legally required to have the subject begin with "NOT YET, SORRY".
