Sorry, I read that to mean no more status changes at all- like no more going to UR or going complete. I see now that that's probably not what they meant.

I went complete today, too. I only just sent in my application on Friday (which feels so late for Berkeley... kicking myself for not getting LoRs together sooner) so it seems like they're moving pretty quickly?

No, mine changed from we have received your application to your file is complete.

I would call them or email. They wrote somewhere that if it does not say it's complete to assume that there is no work being done on it. It's very confusing because it sounds like it's complete when you first get the receipt mail, and on LSAC it could be complete, but the status checker does change.

Also a question about the personal statement-do they really want you to fill out four pages or is staying in the general 2 page okay?

I think the four page guidance is just meant to free you from restrictions (like UCLA's two page strict 12 pt limit). If you can answer everything they ask about in two pages, all the better on you..

This is bad advice (sorry). Dean Tom has explicitly suggested that applicants should take full advantage of the four page limit. They know every other school gives you two pages, they give you four because they want to give you more room to describe yourself, and they want you to use them to prove you're serious about Berkeley.

At the very least, you should use your 2-page PS and try to weave in a 1-2 page "why Berkeley"

I am in full agreement with oliverotis. Dean Tom is looking to use the PS to get a picture of "who you are as a person" and what brings you to Berkeley - you're almost certainly hurting your chances for admission if you choose to curtail this to half the suggested length. If you're going to pay the application fee, you might as well put your best foot forward.

I think you're okay; I know many admits this cycle that didn't drastically change their normal PS for Berekely to meet the longer page limit.

Yeah, don't stress too much. I sent them the same two-page PS and was admitted. Writing longer is still good advice for those who have yet to apply, but if you already submitted the two-pager, you're not doomed.
