Congrats to all of those who were recently admitted. Ive started my apartment search with some help of a 1L on here (thank you!). Does anyone know roughly how much utilities cost. An average or estimate is fine, especially for internet

Mine was changed to admitted today too! :)

I applied 3/15, went complete 3/17, initial review 3/19, comparative review 4/1, admitted 4/8.

My stats weren't super impressive, but I had good softs. 160/2.8 (3.7 for my last degree)

At Cazabella, Village 34, and Camelot the water, Internet, and basic cable is included. I upgraded my internet from the 5 MB included to 50 and it cost $14 a month. The power is what is expensive. GRU sucks.

How expensive? What is the average cost of electricity a month?

I lived at the Reserve at Kanapaha (very nice, quiet apartments near I75 and Archer Road) in a 3 bedroom and my GRU bill varied from $150 in February to almost $400 in August. I did have a washer and dryer and cooked a lot at home, but I also compulsively unplug electronics when they are not in use. Clay Electric when I lived in a 3 bedroom house ran $80-$200. Hope that helps.

I've lived in Gainesville in a 2 bedroom apartment near the Oaks Mall since June 2014, also have GRU, and my electricity usually runs about 80 bucks a month with 2 people living in the house. I keep my A/C at 69 all the time, and I like my house to be warm in the winter. And I have a washer/dryer inside the apartment. I don't find utilities to be expensive. Who ever is paying 400 dollars a month must have something wrong with his apartment (seriously you should talk to the building manager) or have like 50 tvs/computers/washer and dryers/and other utilities running 24/7. My tv is on most of the day and so are two of my computers and I've yet to go over 100.

Though I don't think it would cause this big of a discrepancy, you would be surprised how much natural shade from trees can affect your electricity bill/AC in gville. I think that might be part of the case here.

No shade and tall ceilings had a lot to do with my summer crazy-high electric issues, but those aren't uncommon issues in Gainesville.

Oh wow. Also, if you are currently at the law school, do you think that it is a great benefit to live right near the law school or does it really matter. I live on archer now and I was thinking that I should move closer to the school but Gainesville is so small that I'm not sure if it matters

I was talking to my dad about that this morning. He just retired from the sheriff's office in Alachua county (he has lots of opinions about crime and traffic). If you drive, living close would be hard. I think living out in Jonesvile/Ft Clarke area, parking at the mall and taking the bus to campus is how I would do it if I didn't already have a house in Gilchrist county. My drive will suck. :)

Is anyone here going to ASD tomorrow?

Has anyone still under comparative review changed to a decision yet? The wait is killing me.

Well, after visiting both schools, I withdrew from FSU and am looking for roommates/a house in Gainesville. :D

GL to all you waiters -- hope to see you around campus in August.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
