Oh, I know. I'm not offended. This just goes on all the time on these chat rooms. "He" is the assumed norm, and I'm just calling attention to it. Use "their" or look at the profile for the gender.Cal Trask wrote:I'm sure they meant no offense. No need to be upset.yeslekkkk wrote:HER 18k. Re: UC Hastings c/o 2017 Applicants (2013-2014)
"Their" is not grammatically correct when referring to a singular person. Using "he" is simply a default. Typically, you default to your own gender in these cases. No need to waste time figuring out the gender when it's not overtly known. It's not like this is a formal setting.yeslekkkk wrote:Oh, I know. I'm not offended. Sounds like you're awfully touchy about the subject? Perhaps an extreme feminist? And yes I default to my own gender naturally. Most people do as another poster said. I wonder if you are always so politically correct in all your posts. For your sake, I hope you are.yeslekkkk wrote:HER 18k. Don't assume everyone is a dude.Moonlight wrote:I call his 18k?

Chill out, bro. To parrot your own advice, their works fine, even if slightly grammatically awkward.bkegslounge wrote: "Their" is not grammatically correct when referring to a singular person. No, it doesn't at all. Son of an English teacher... it's in my blood...Cal Trask wrote:-1 it doesn't matter, does it?Moonlight wrote:+1bkegslounge wrote: "Their" is not grammatically correct when referring to a singular person. Haha I grew up with some grammatical sticklers so I can relate to your feeling. My classmate's parents were predominantly teachers and a good number of them are English teachers.

It just seems incredibly pedantic to call somebody out for calling something out because it's an informal environment, then criticize their grammar in doing so. All bros (gender-neutral term) be chill. Good? Good.

Re: UC Hastings c/o 2017 Applicants (2013-2014)
ha. Sorry, this all got taken so seriously. I know "their" isn't technically correct, nor is using the wrong pronoun. I'm not an extreme feminist, but I am a feminist. It's just annoying after awhile reading "he" for any time someone writes about me in third person. This isn't the only time it's happened. Some might default to their own gender, but it doesn't make it justifiable. So, I should probably default to my own gender and just start calling everyone "she". I'll start doing that. Again, checking out.

Just received an additional $15k/year scholarship in addition to the $13k for a total of $28k/year. I will likely be withdrawing soon though, so this will probably go back in the pot.
