Re: In at Harvard: Class of 2016
Has anyone found good threads on making the HLS vs. Yale decision?
What do you think?
I'll be at both ASWs in April!

Just don't have your SO raise their hand to answer questions in class and spend most of a lecture pretty obviously playing on their iPad.zdamico wrote:What are people's thoughts on bringing someone to ASW, such as a girlfriend/spouse?

My boyfriend is planning on coming (might not be able to because of work, but we'll see). Like read said, I want to include him in this decision because it impacts him too.zdamico wrote:What are people's thoughts on bringing someone to ASW, such as a girlfriend/spouse?
I guess we need to keep tabs on them so they aren't distractions

In case anyone's wondering, that's not a hypothetical.canarykb wrote:Just don't have your SO raise their hand to answer questions in class and spend most of a lecture pretty obviously playing on their iPad.zdamico wrote:What are people's thoughts on bringing someone to ASW, such as a girlfriend/spouse?
I didn't bring a SO myself, but I saw several people who did - HLS's Couples' Association even took them out to lunch one of the days. I think as long as they're polite, no one will have a problem.

FWIW you can register guests who have a "significant input" in your decision, so it's encouraged on some level. I'm bringing mine to ASW, though I'm sure he'll only attend the tour and housing open house.

Wow, HLS has the best recruiting out of all the schools I've gotten into thus far. I e-mailed JS with some of my concerns, and within 48 hours, I have three people e-mailing me telling me about their experiences and offering other relevant information... if ASW is anywhere close to this level of persuasion, I don't think I'll be able to resist their charms!

ASW is incredibly persuasive. I mean, you know they are putting on a show for you, but it's a damn good one.carboncopyx wrote:Wow, HLS has the best recruiting out of all the schools I've gotten into thus far. It's also a good sign that current students/alums are at the quick-and-ready to reach out to admitted students. That alumni network...canarykb wrote:ASW is incredibly persuasive. I mean, you know they are putting on a show for you, but it's a damn good one.

It'd be a good idea for each of you to try to talk to a few students outside the ASW program while you're here. There will be plenty of students around WCC over the weekend and on Monday who aren't ASW volunteers and can give you alternative perspectives on things.

I got my SLS financial aid and it's a bit more than HLS's - not a HUGE difference, but multiplied by a couple years and then paying interest on it for 10+, certainly not nothing either. Has anyone tried reaching out to fin aid to have another look with a better offer from SLS/YLS?

They say if it seems like they overlooked something to send them a copy of the other offer... I just wish SLS would gimme theirs!rocktower3 wrote:I got my SLS financial aid and it's a bit more than HLS's - not a HUGE difference, but multiplied by a couple years and then paying interest on it for 10+, certainly not nothing either. So, in my mind, it makes me think that Stanford is awesome because it's alums love it so much, and that Harvard has very little alum involvement.
Or maybe no one at Harvard likes me.
I filled out the survey, but I think it depends on what you showed interest in (I didn't). Also, I didn't respond to JS's email. Perhaps no one shares your interests

Yeah, I responded to JS's e-mail, and one of my professors knows her personally so he asked her and others to reach out to me/my parents about the decision. Meanwhile... nothing from Yale, even though I returned the survey. Hmm...Searchparty wrote:I filled out the survey, but I think it depends on what you showed interest in (I didn't). Yeah, might go for it and see! Ugh I hear you - and even when you get it, you have to create the account and....wait some more.ManOfTheMinute wrote:They say if it seems like they overlooked something to send them a copy of the other offer... Got my financial aid. I have to say I'm pretty pleased--it's about what Chicago offered me in merit aid, so Harvard clearly wins by a mile and a half.
