srs? Davis is going to lose a ton of quality applicants to UCI that way (and subsequently tumble further in the ranking).

Yup. Just got 14K from Davis (45K from UCI after negotiation). Also, LOL at the gif.boblawlob wrote:GTFO99.9luft wrote:got the package. zero merit-based aid (i'm above both medians). Withdrawing.

Hello All,
3L at Davis. There is a new King Hall Student Budget Committee blog post about Financial Aid distribution and the total cost of attending King Hall. I figured some of you may be interested.

Thanks for the data. It's pretty expensive overall, now matter how you look at it. I skimmed most of it; is there a part regarding the % of students who get receive a scholarship for 2L and 3L?haider wrote:Hello All,

Does Davis send some sort of admission packet in the mail? I got my text message on 4/1, but nothing in the mail yet. How long did it take for you guys?

For those of you who got merit aid, how were you notified? I'm only seeing a grant on my awards.

Is that merit scholarship reflected on your MyAward page? Is apart from the grant?WisemanAEKDB wrote:Email. Subsequent negotiation was a failure.gitguy wrote:For those of you who got merit aid, how were you notified? I'm only seeing a grant on my awards.

Correct. Very plainly marked "merit scholarship".gitguy wrote:Is that merit scholarship reflected on your MyAward page? Is apart from the grant?WisemanAEKDB wrote:Email. Re: Davis c/o 2016
Thanks for the post. Seems like that's going to be a great resource for King Hall students. A quick question if you have the time: do you know the likelihood of having grants and scholarships renewed for 2L and 3L? I've received a pretty good offer for my 1L year, but if my funding will be decreased significantly for 2L and 3L, attending Davis will become much riskier.haider wrote:Hello All,

Well, I'm going to be withdrawing my app. I was offered 14K need-based grants and 6K merit-based grants. I also was offered merit grants at University of Arizona (tied with Davis in most recent rankings) for full tuition and fees (42K per year) and a special mentor program.
I sent Davis the details and they increased my merit-based grants to 11K per year. I just can't justify going 90K in debt for tuition alone at UC Davis when I can go tuition-free at a peer institution.
I hope my spot and $$ gets redistributed to you guys. Best of luck!

Same original $$. Sent them my other scholarship offers and got stonewalled. Good luck at Arizona, I'll most likely be making the same choice to attend (mostly) tuition-free at a peer.Stormageddon wrote:Well, I'm going to be withdrawing my app. I was offered 14K need-based grants and 6K merit-based grants. 97% of King Hall Students in 2011-12 received some sort of financial aid (scholarship or grant).WisemanAEKDB wrote:Thanks for the data. It's pretty expensive overall, now matter how you look at it. If you receive merit scholarships, the letter will state if it renews. It likely does. If you receive grants, this is determined every year depending on your FAFSA. I asked the Director of Financial Aid, and he put it this way. As law students, you usually just get poorer. You are unlikely to find a paying job after 1L year, and any Research Position you get or other work will be part time. This means you need will usually only increase as a law student and your grants are likely to continue. Personally, I found this to be true. Anecdotally, my classmates agree.md22 wrote:

This also makes sense statistically. Of the King Hall students who receive financial aid, the total financial aid packages can be broken down in to the following quartiles:
25th -- $13,000
50th -- $23,000
75th -- $27,000
This shows that of the 97% of students receiving aid, half of them receive $23K or more. 25% of the 97% receive $27K or more in total financial aid packages. So if you are receiving aid now, you will likely continue to do so. You can compare your package to other students' using this breakdown.
Hope that helps.

Anyone know where I could find data on davis's percentage of out of state and in state students? It's not listed in their student body profile page.
