Dean Richard's May 3rd update e-mail didn't get sent till after 8:30PM Pacific, so I haven't given up hope of an update today (although the hope of an actual offer of admission is quickly dwindling), even if it's past their normal hours out in Charlottesville. But if they've just closed up shop for the day and went home, then they sit upon a throne of lies, and I don't know what to believe anymore

This could be good news. If it's taking this long to review wait listed applications and get back to us on what's next, they could be seriously expecting to make some offers soon. Just a thought.

Good afternoon. I apologize that this update comes a day late.

I do not have much to report today. We have not made any offers of admission since my last update.

I believe there will be more wait list activity in the upcoming days and weeks. As any of our admitted students who currenty are holding seats withdraw or defer, we will make offers to wait listed candidates. If we are able to offer you admission, we will contact you by phone and email.

Thank you for your patience throughout this process. I will be in touch again before the end of next week.

Don't freak me out like that! My email didn't come until later, and meanwhile I thought I was not on some super-special higher list. But...then it just came. Whew!

Two options for this banana, who needs to find housing at his second choice city in July, and will be withdrawing from the waitlist at that point:

1) Write/call UVA, tell them I'd still go if accepted, but I'll need to know before July X. In other words, give a deadline that would either spur them into action, or (more likely) annoy them into dinging me.

2) Patiently wait until July X, and just quietly withdraw if no news. In other words, you can't compel them to do anything, so why risk annoying them.

Thoughts?

I guess maybe I would email them and say "I will attend if accepted but I need to know by X date otherwise I have to move on with my current plans." If you're polite I can't see them holding it against you.

Perhaps. Although for some reason I thought banana was locked in to NU right now, not sure a UVA acceptance would motivate them to offer money. But yeah, point taken.

Zuck and Bruin, I guess you guys are both right: it couldn't hurt to ask for a final decision by July X, but it's not going to accomplish anything. Also correct that a UVA acceptance probably won't sweeten the pot at NU, but worth trying. I guess I'll just keep on waiting
